Event #8 has its champion: Nicholas Soller

    2019/03/26 - 5:34 by Playground Poker

The heads up match between Charan Malhotra and Nicholas Soller lasted three levels.  The chips were exchanging hands every now and then, but mostly, both players were waiting for a decent hand.

Charan started with a sizable lead on Nicholas, who only had 900,000 of the total 3,575,000 chips in play.  Mid-way through the two-man contest, Nicholas doubled-up and Charan was badly hurt.  The two experienced players played back and forth for a while, never doing much harm to each other, and seemed to be quite content to play on, even after 10 hours of play.

Tournament structure in the late stages has an uncanny ability to put an end to the festivities: the blinds go up.  It is universal truth that all good things must come to an end; and heads-up matches are no exception.  Things started to get a little less comfortable when the blinds hit the 60K / 120K level.  With less than 30 bb’s on the table; there wasn’t much room to maneuver.

Eventually though, Charan pushed all-in holding King of Hearts Jack of Clubs and that’s when Nicholas saw the opportunity to end it all, without too much of a risk, considering Charan’s stack.  He called and tabled: Queen of Hearts 2 of Spades.  From the flop to the river, nothing went well for Charan: Queen of Clubs 5 of Spades 6 of Spades 10 of Spades 4 of Clubs and Nicholas scooped all the chips with a pair of queens.

That’s a wrap for the March Playground Power Weekend!

Event #8 Champion: Nicholas Soller, $3,520

    The Last Hand of Play

    2nd Place: Charan Malhotra, $3,480

Benoît Rouleau finishes in 3rd place

    • Level: 24
    • Small Blind: 30K
    • Big Blind: 60K
    • BB Ante: 0
    • Chip Average: 1,787,500
    • Remaining: 2
    • Entries: 143

    2019/03/26 - 4:33 by Playground Poker

Benoît Rouleau survived ups and downs on the final table, but with the blinds at 30K/60K he had very few options left. His suited ace was good enough to bet it all. Charan Malhotra was there with a quick call.

Benoît: Ace of Diamonds 5 of Hearts

Charan: Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs

Nobody hit anything on the board, and there were enough low cards that Charan’s eight did the trick to send Benoît to the rail in 3rd place.

    3rd Position: Benoît Rouleau, $2,655

The stage is now set for the heads up action between Charan Malhotra and Nicholas Soller, two regular players at Playground Poker Club.

Di Perna out in 5th, Capone in 4th

    • Level: 23
    • Small Blind: 20K
    • Big Blind: 40K

    • Entries: 143

    2019/03/26 - 4:24 by Playground Poker

Matthew Di Perna had no chips left; he was nursing a micro stack and was happy to get Ace of Hearts Queen of Spades for his last all-in. Capone, having to put only a few more chips in, made the call, holding 7 of Hearts 3 of Hearts. The board ran dry until the 3 of Diamonds on the river gave a pair to Tony and sent Matthew home in 5th place.

5th Position: Matthew Di Perna, $2,237

Tony Capone was the next player sent to the rail. He woke up with 8 of Clubs 8 of Spades and needed no more to go to the mattress with his last 160,000 chips. Charan Malhotra made the call holding Ace of Spades 5 of Hearts. Tony was looking good on the flop: Queen of Spades 4 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds, but he got a bit anxious with the 3 of Spades on the turn. And, sure enough, the 2 of Spades on the river gave Charan a straight and put an end to Tony’s run.

    4th Position: Tony Capone, $2,570

    No rest for Tony

    • Level: 22
    • Small Blind: 15K

    2019/03/26 - 4:09 by Playground Poker

Tony Capone has been on a roller-coaster ride tonight. Two back-to-back hands had his head spinning…

Nicholas Soller was all-in, with a Ace of Spades 3 of Spades and a mountain of chips behind. Tony was all-in as well, holding Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts. The board was revealed: 9 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 4 of Spades 8 of Hearts King of Diamonds. The Jack was more than enough for Tony and he doubled up.

In the next hand, Tony was all-in again, but now against two other players.
Tony: 6 of Clubs 6 of Spades
Matthew Di Perna: King of Spades King of Hearts
Nicholas Soller: Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds

This time, however, the board was a little rougher. The flop came out: Jack of Hearts King of Diamonds 2 of Clubs, which made a relieved Matthew smile. The Ace of Clubs on the turn dispelled Matthew’s smile and brought one to Nicholas’s face. The 10 of Hearts on the river changed nothing. So Shooter triples-up, Tony pays everybody and Matthew suffers an approximate loss of 100,000 chips.

The five players have a deal

    • Small Blind: 15K
    • Big Blind: 30K

The clock has been stopped and the players are discussing a possible ICM chop. After a few minutes of discussion, an agreement has been made according to everyone’s chip count. $1,000 has been laid aside for the top prizes. $300 for the 2nd prize and $700 for the winner.
