The action was already well under way when we arrived at table #60. Nick was facing a 50,000 bet from Maxime Laberge on a 5 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 6 of Hearts board.

With only 68,000 chips left in front of him, on top of an existing 10,000 bet, he was obviously struggling with his decision. With Maxime staring straight ahead, Nick called a clock on himself. After a few seconds though, he made his decision and shoved all-in. No sooner had Nick acted, Maxime called.

Maxime was holding Ace of Hearts 7 of Clubs 5 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds and looking for a flush. Nick tabled his hand: King of Hearts King of Clubs 7 of Hearts 7 of Spades , his flush draw no longer a contender, he was counting on his cowboys to hold their ground.

A 10 of Spades came on the turn, followed by a Jack of Spades on the river. The kings were good and a relieved Nick sat back down and was happy to scoop the chips home.

    Laberge is still going strong

Maxime Laberge is having a great night tonight. He’s consistently been among the leaders and is now the chipleader. The players took a short break, which gave us the opportunity to update the stacks.

To no one’s surprise Maxime Laberge tops the list, and has a comfortable lead ahead of his opponents. Almost 100,000 chips behind him is Harrison Kaczka, his closest rival at the moment.

When the tournament gets down to 9 players, there will be a complete redraw for the final table.

Ten STEP 1 winners on their way to STEP 2

    2019/03/21 - 23:35 by Playground Poker

It only took 1 hand in the “hand per hand” format to eliminate the 11th player, and reward the 10 remaining players with a STEP 2 seat.

The hand was over in a flash. When Serge Dube peeked at his hole cards, he wasted no time shoving all-in. Table leader Kevin Côté snapped called and both players tabled their hands.

Kevin Côté: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

Serge Dubé: Ace of Spades 10 of Hearts

Dubé knew he was in trouble unless the board turned out to be very friendly. The King of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 6 of Spades flop did nothing to help, but not everything was lost. Any ten would be great for him, or the board could still double-pair and make it a split-pot. The turn was pretty good: 9 of Diamonds . Now Serge could add all the 7’s to his outs. But a 2 of Hearts on the river did not help and Serge was sent to the rail.

This hand put an end to the game and made ten players pretty happy. They will be back for the STEP 2 this Saturday March 23rd at 8:00pm

    Congratulations to all the winners:

    • Kevin Côté
    • Michèle Oriente
    • Alexandre Mongrain
    • Gaël Dauphinais
    • Jo-Anne Beauchesne
