Gagne-Lizotte bests Gomes to claim the title in the PG100

    2019/03/24 - 20:06 by Playground Poker

The PG100 was one of the highlight events in the March Power Weekend, boasting a guarantee of $25,000 over 3 starting flights.

A total of 496 entries took place, nearly doubling the guarantee, of which 51 made Day 2 – all of which were “in the money”. The day started with heavy action as many short stacks sneaked their way into the money, and with this pressure now off their shoulders, they were able to open up their game in an attempt to make their way to the final table.

After 8 levels of play, the 10-handed final table was formed with Carl Gagne-Lizotte at the head of the pack. Luigi Fantigrossi came out swinging and did some damage to his table mates before ending his run in 5th place. He was followed by WSOP Bracelet winner Michael Malm in 4th and Joel Berard in 3rd before heads-up action began.

The dual between Carl and Andre Luiz Gomes only lasted a few hands, and before long Carl was crowned our PG100 champion after his Ace of Spades 5 of Spades bested the King of Hearts Queen of Diamonds of his opponent.

    Congratulations!

    PG100 Champion: Carl Gagne-Lizotte – $10,000

    Runner-up: Andre Luiz Gomes – $6,860

Carl Gagne-Lizotte opened to 300,000 from the button, and Joel Berard placed a raise to 800,000 from the small blind. Carl obliged, and the two players went heads-up to the flop.

With Queen of Hearts 7 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds on the board, Joel moved all-in first to act and found a quick call.

Joel: Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds
Carl: Queen of Diamonds 9 of Clubs

Once cards were tabled, the dealer rung out a 7 of Spades turn and 4 of Diamonds river, sealing the pot for Carl and eliminating Joel in the process (3rd place – $4,342).

Michael Malm managed to ladder up a position with his short stack before playing out his final hand in the PG100.

After an open to 325,000 from Joel Berard on the button, Michael 3bet all-in for 1,000,000 from the big blind and found a call.

Michael: Ace of Clubs 3 of Spades
Joel: Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts

Board: 10 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 8 of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Michael wasn’t able to improve his hand, ending his tournament in 4th place for $2,950.

After a string of unfortunate hands, Luigi Fantigrossi dwindled into the short stack of the final table. With only a few big blinds left, his all-in was looked up by Carl Gagne-Lizotte.

Luigi: King of Diamonds 6 of Spades
Carl: Ace of Clubs King of Spades

Board: 7 of Spades 5 of Diamonds 4 of Spades Queen of Clubs Ace of Diamonds

With no help on the board, Luigi saw his deep run come to an end in 5th place.

A short break is underway in Day 2 of the PG100, and the field is now down to just 5 players. Everyone has secured at least $2,280 in winnings, with the winner set to take home more than 4 times that amount.

Carl Gagne-Lizotte has taken over the top spot on the leaderboard after taking a healthy chunk out of Luigi in the last hand before the break. Below are the counts as play enters level 29.

Carl Gagne-Lizotte opened from early position to 200,000, and Nick Nickoletopoulos 3bet all-in next to act. Luigi Fantigrossi decided to join the party and moved all-in from the button, holding slightly less than Nick. Carl let go of his hand and the heads-up players opened their hands.

Nick: Ace of Spades King of Spades
Luigi: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Luigi improved his hand on the 8 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds 7 of Spades board and found a double-up of his 1,480,000 stack, leaving Nick with only a few blinds behind.

Moments later Nick committed the remainder of his chips, and his King of Spades 8 of Diamonds was bested by Joel Berard’s Ace of Diamonds Jack of Clubs to end his run in 6th place ($1,890).
