It’s Friday night and Playground Poker Club is buzzing with action – the cash tables are overflowing into the tournament hall, the daytime flight to the Grand Prix Canada is on it’s last legs and the evening flight has just kicked off.

As expected, the flights are getting larger and larger – possibly due to the fact that this Event #1 of the partypoker.net Live is looking at some potential overlay. There is a $500,000 guarantee boasted for the event, and so far the total number of entries is suggesting the possibility of overlay, as the combined count is of 1,271 entries after 22 flights, with 6 more flights to go. The full schedule for the Grand Prix Canada can be found here.

Action is underway in level 1 of Day 1H, and late registration will remain open through until the end of the first break at 9:15pm. Over 100 players are already in their seats so far, suggesting that tonight’s flight will be a big one. Come on down to Canada’s premiere poker destination and grab a seat at the tables!

See you on the felts!

Day 1F complete; 7 flights remain

2017/04/28 - 4:14 by Playground Poker

The 6th live flight of the Grand Prix Canada $500,000 guaranteed is over, and 15 players have added their name to the growing list of qualifiers for Day 2, which takes place on Sunday April 30th. Several more starting flights are still on the program, with two live Day 1s on Friday (12pm and 7pm), and three more on Saturday (12pm, 4pm and 7pm) at Playground Poker Club. Alternatively, two flights are available on partypoker.net at 9pm on both Friday and Saturday night. Full schedule available here.

From a starting field of 150 players, it was Charles Bensimon (pictured) who accumulated the most chips, bagging a cool 726,200 onto Day 2. Tommy Inthouray blew up near the end of the night to come in a close second place as he closed with 717,300 in chips. The table below includes the final counts of the 15 survivors from Day 1F.

After winning a flip worth 400K with pocket Tens versus Ace-King, Roger Thibault has run his stack up above 500K, taking over the chip lead in the later stages of Day 1F. Joel Sheres has also sprung up the leaderboard in recent orbits, holding just over 400K.

Action is down to 25 players, and we are but 10 eliminations away from completing the flight. Once the players have bagged their chips, we will publish the results from the flight, and add the qualifying stacks to the Grand Prix Canada Day 1 combined results page.

Danick Landriault has been steadily building his stack throughout the flight, passing the chip-leader torch back and forth with other big stack Daniel Le. He recently won a pot that saw him regain the title of chip-leader, placing him near 300K after 16 levels of play.

We missed the action preflop, but Danick was involved in a pot from middle position against the two players in the blinds. With 8 of Clubs 2 of Spades 10 of Spades showing on the board, both blinds checked to Danick, who fired 13,500. The player in the small blind mucked his hand, while the big blind check-raised to 30,000. Danick obliged, and the two players tangoed to the turn – a Jack of Hearts. First to act, the player in the big blind announced all-in, forcing Danick into the tank. He asked for a chip count, and then separated the 73,600 bet from his stack before finally making the call, leaving him with around 50,000 behind.

Danick tabled Ace of Clubs 8 of Hearts and was ahead of his opponents drawing Ace of Spades 9 of Spades, however he had a lot of cards to dodge on the river – 18 to be precise. The river brought the 6 of Diamonds, and Danick won the nearly 250,000 pot with the pair of 8s to place him at the top of this flights leaderboard at the moment.

Day 1F has just entered level 15, and 45 players remain at the felts on route to the final 15, who will qualify onto Day 2. Daniel Le still maintains the chip lead at this stage of the tournament, however a number of players have recently leaped above the 100K mark and are rivalling the chip-lead. A short break is scheduled after level 18, and at that time we will provide a detailed update on the chip counts.

Through 12 levels of play, a number of players have managed to surpass the 100K mark here in Day 1F of the Grand Prix Canada. Leading the pack is Daniel Le, who has had a tremendous last level which saw him get propelled into the chip lead. He recently passed Danick Landiault, who has been the steady chip-leader through these early stages of the flight. Below is a list of the top counts at the second break of the night.

Action is back underway in level 13, and 66 players remain of the 150 that began the night. Once all is said and done, only 15 players will remain when it comes time to bag the chips.
