Aces don’t cut it for JPP

2017/05/08 - 21:13 by Playground Poker

Faced with an early position open, Jocelyn Poirier 3bet to 3,625,000 from the button. Jean-Philippe Piquette then moved all-in from the small blind, and action folded back around to Jocelyn. He moved into the tank for a few minutes before finally making the call for nearly all of his chips, as both players were close to 12 million each.

Jocelyn: 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts
Jean-Philippe: Ace of Clubs Ace of Spades

Jean-Philippe didn’t like the 6 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts very much, and jokingly asked the dealer to slow down. The 3 of Spades on the turn brought no change, but the pocket Tens made a straight on the 9 of Spades river. Once the count was done, the dealer announced that Jean-Philippe was covered by a small margin, and was eliminated in 64th place for $22,500.

Xuan Liu saw her stack drop down to almost 2 million when she got her last chips in from the big blind. Her all-in was matched by two opponents, however some aggressive betting by Niall Farrel on both the flop and the turn reduced the hand to heads-up before the river was dealt.

The board was showing 9 of Diamonds 3 of Spades 4 of Clubs Jack of Clubs when the players were asked to open up, and Niall tabled 9 of Hearts 10 of Hearts for a pair of tens, while Xuan showed down Queen of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds for an open-ended straight draw and 1 over-card. Although Xuan was her usual calm and cool self on the outside, she was likely cheering for one of her 11 outs to hit the river in her head. Unfortunately for her, the river was a 7 of Spades, spelling her elimination in 71st place for $20,000.

Other recent eliminations include Kane Kalas ($20,000), Steven Kerr ($20,000), Jason Comtois ($20,000) and Samuel Chartier ($17,500).

The pace has picked up since the money-bubble burst, and chips are moving around quite a bit.

Daniel Suied was recently eliminated after squeezing with his last 6.65M holding 8 of Spades 8 of Clubs. He found a call from Alexander Allison with Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs, who ran a flush on the Queen of Hearts 3 of Clubs 5 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs board to claim the pot.

Jonathan Bussieres found a key double-up with King of Hearts King of Clubs versus 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts, crippling online qualifier Chun Ho Law in the process. Chun was eliminated shortly after.

John Krpan was sent to the rail after seeing his King of Spades King of Hearts get cracked by the 7 of Clubs 7 of Spades of Thomas Cemm.

Upeshka De Silva is also out of the partypoker Million North America, and collected $15,000 for his run, as did the previously mentioned eliminations.
