Saturday in the Montreal area is going to be cool and partially cloudy – a perfect day to play poker! And a lot of people will be doing just that, as the final live opportunities to qualify for Day 2 in the partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Canada come today at 12:00pm, 4:00pm, and 7:00pm, in addition to the final online Day 1 at 9:00pm tonight.
The tournament is still on track for an overlay on the $500,000 prize pool, as a total of 909 entries are required to make that half-million overall figure. Poker players are well acquainted with the value this represents – effectively, players will have a smaller field to navigate for the same prize pool, which is a relatively easier task for everyone!
For most players, today’s starting flights represent their last chance to navigate through the field to the final 10% and thus qualify for Day 2 – and book a $400 payday in the process. For others though – the 170+ who have already qualified for Day 2 – it’s an opportunity to qualify a second time and build up a larger stack for Day 2 AND book a second $400 payday. This is a best-stack forward tournament, and with the top 10 chip leaders having all passed the 640K mark, anyone who wants a shot at the big money prizes will put that count in the crosshairs and spend $220 to try and vault themselves to the top of the leaderboard.
There are just 5 players already in the “double stack” territory – players who have qualified twice for Day 2 and who have already booked $800 in cash. With quite a few players likely to be aiming to join them, today’s flights are sure to be as exciting as they are well-attended.
Good luck to everyone playing today! As usual, we’ll be following the action throughout the day to keep everyone up-to-date on the status of the Grand Prix Canada as the final Day 1s play out.
