The partypoker LIVE Grand Prix Canada Day 3 resumes tonight, and 38 players return to the felts in hopes of claiming victory in this kickoff event to the Playground Poker Spring Classic. A cash prize of $1,550 is already locked in for all of the Day 3 players, and a massive $100,000 is reserved for the eventual champion. A final table appearance will guarantee $4,000, and a 6th place or better finish will secure a 5-figure payday.

Mike Leah

Sitting atop the leaderboard to start the day is none other than Mike “GoLeafsGoEh” Leah, who ended Day 2 with a hefty 6,054,000 chip stack. He is looking to add another score to his impressive resume. Along with 10 other players, Mike is holding a partypoker.net Golden Chip, meaning he is in a last-longer where the final remaining player with a Golden Chip will be awarded a $20,000 cash prize, along with their regular payout (this is a bonus prize, and is not taken from the tournament prize-pool).

Second in chips is Leandre St-Laurent, who spend the end of Day 2 steadily chipping up and ended up bagging a cool 5,414,000 in chips. Below are all of the player-reported chip counts going into Day 3.

There is a live stream available for Day 3 action (on a short delay) which can be found on the Playground Poker Facebook page – it will begin roughly 30 minutes after Day 3 kicks off. It will be cards-down until the final table, after which the stream will become cards-open. Full links will be provided shortly.

Good luck to our Day 3 players!

From a starting field of 2,570 entries, 269 hopefuls returned to the felts today for Day 2 of the Grand Prix Canada, and after 14 levels of play only 38 remained to bag chips onto Day 3. Players have now locked in a prize of at least $1,550, and a cool $100,000 is reserved for the eventual tournament champion. In addition to these prizes, partypoker.net offered up a $20,000 bonus in the form of a “last-longer” amongst the first 100 players who qualified online through their site – and a handful of these players bagged chips after Day 2, including chip-leader Mike Leah. They carry a “Golden Chip” with them which they must leave next to their stack so that they can be identified.

After leading the field for most of the last few levels of play, Leandre St-Laurent was passed in the last level by Mike Leah, who returns with the chip-lead tomorrow when Day 3 begins. Mike ended the day with a massive 6,054,000 in chips, roughly 3 times the current average stack. Leandre ended the day second in chips with 5,414,000, while Benjamin Bracken closed Day 2 in 3rd place.

The full list of player-reported chip counts will be made available shortly, along with the seating assignments for Day 3, which begins at 7pm. The final table of this Event 1 of the Playground Poker Spring Classic will be streamed with cards up (and a short delay) – links will be made widely available tomorrow.

Leandre St-Laurent returned from break into level 25 as the chip leader, and has recently added some ammunition to his already healthy armory.

Mina Mourad opened to 126,000 from early position, and Eric Bigras 3-bet all-in next to act. When action folded around to Leandre, he asked for a count and then moved into the tank. The 1.6 million chip bet was nearly half of his current stack, but Leandre’s hand was too strong to fold, and he isolated by moving all-in himself. Mina quickly mucked his hand, and the two players tabled their hands.

Leandre: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs

Although the hand was a flip to start, Leandre found a set in the window and held for the win on the 9 of Clubs 2 of Clubs Queen of Spades 4 of Spades 8 of Spades board. With that pot he well surpassed the 5-million chip mark, further securing his chip lead.
