PLO 50/50 Bounty Champion: Ivan Driard

2017/05/03 - 4:23 by Playground Poker

Event #3 of the Playground Poker Spring Classic presented by partypoker LIVE was a $100 + $20 + $100 Pot Limit Omaha Bounty tournament which attracted 121 players and 30 re-entries, for a total of 151 entries.

Although cash prizes were being awarded throughout the night in the form of $100 bounties, the final 13 players were awarded cash payouts, with $3,440 reserved for eventual winner.

Steve Ulloa-Torres was the early chip leader and managed to gather a handful of bounties in the early levels of play. Once play neared the money-bubble, Manfred Gunther started applying pressure with his big stack and won two big pots which propelled him to the final table as chip-leader. After picking up bounties in 2 of the first 3 eliminations, Manfred eventually made an exit from the tournament in 4th place. Brian Morgan was the 3rd place finisher, and heads-up play began between Steve and Ivan Driard, with Steve holding a 3-to-1 chip lead.

After a few hands of play, Ivan evened the playing grounds and the two finalists decided to strike a deal. Being very close in stacks, they agreed to take an even portion of the prize-pool, all the while leaving an extra $300 for the eventual winner, who would also take home the champions trophy. Ivan quickly picked up a 2-to-1 chip lead over his opponent before the two players clashed in a big pot leading to Steve’s elimination.

With blinds at 30K/60K, Steve completed his small blind, and Ivan checked his big blind option. On a 2 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs 3 of Hearts flop, Ivan checked first to act, and Steve fired 75K. Ivan raised to 345K, and called Steve’s all-in of 1.15M.

Ivan: Queen of Hearts 10 of Spades 5 of Spades 2 of Spades
Steve: 8 of Clubs 7 of Spades 5 of Hearts 4 of Hearts

Steve was drawing to a straight, while Ivan flopped three-of-a-kind. The 3 of Diamonds brought no change in the hand, and the 2 of Hearts sealed the deal for Ivan, who closed the tournament with quads! Although Ivan only managed to pocket 1 bounty prior to heads-up play, he locked in the biggest payout and earned an extra 2 bounties by winning the heads-up match. Steve walked away with the biggest total prize as he cashed in a massive 16 bounty chips worth $1,600.

Congratulations!

Brian Morgan saw his stack drop to just 120K in 3-handed action. He found a double-up through Steve Ulloa-Torres, and then found himself all-in and at risk once again against Steve a few hands later.

Steve bet the pot from the button, and Brian called the 140K wager. Brian then lead out for his last 220K on a Ace of Clubs 10 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts flop and found a quick call.

Brian: King of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs
Steve: Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts 10 of Clubs 6 of Spades

Brian failed to improve on the running Ace of Hearts and 4 of Clubs and saw the last of his chips get shipped across the table.

3rd place: Brian Morgan – $2,000.00

After losing a big portion of his stack to Steve Ulloa-Torres in the hand that lead to Simon Pin-Disle elimination, Manfred Gunther was reduced to around 10bb. After Brian Morgan limped from utg, Manfred bet the pot from the button. Steve re-potted from the small blind, which forced the Ivan and Brian out of the hand. With around half his stack already in the middle, Manfred committed the rest of his chips and action closed heads-up.

Steve: Ace of Spades Queen of Spades Queen of Diamonds Jack of Clubs
Manfred: King of Hearts King of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds

Steve got the best of the Ace of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs 6 of Spades 3 of Diamonds board to send his opponent to the rail, and further extend his chip-lead with 3 players left.

4th place: Manfred Gunther – $1,550.00

Simon Pin-Disle returned from the break as the short stack, and waited almost a full level before committing his last chips. He bet the pot from the cutoff, and his 105K wager was called by both Manfred (button) and Steve (small blind).

With 5 of Clubs 5 of Hearts Jack of Spades showing on the flop, Steve lead for 85K, Simon slid forward his last 35K, and Manfred followed along. Both live players checked on the 2 of Clubs turn, and Steve fired when the Queen of Spades hit the river. Manfred quickly called and all three players tabled their hands.

All three players had a huge flop, as Manfred (10 of Spades 8 of Hearts 6 of Spades 5 of Diamonds) and Simon (Ace of Spades 9 of Clubs 5 of Spades 3 of Spades) both had three-of-a-kind but were no match to the jacks-full of Steve, who tabled Jack of Hearts Jack of Clubs 4 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds.

Steve has now taken over the chip lead as play has reached 4-way.

5th place: Simon Pin-Disle – $1,200.00

Alexandre Vendette was trying to spin up his short stack, and found a great spot to do so versus Brian Morgan, however the community cards turned his fate around and send him to the rail in 6th place.

Alexandre: Queen of Clubs Jack of Clubs Jack of Spades 7 of Diamonds
Brian: Queen of Hearts 9 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds

Board: King of Spades 2 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts Ace of Spades

Brian’s flopped two-pairs was the best hand as he collected a few extra chips, and a $100 bounty.
