During the last break we were able to get counts for the remaining 6 players, and what it suggests is that the end of this tournament could easily come relatively quickly. Duhamel is the current leader, but he and Finger have been trading the lead since the last few levels yesterday, so this is not a new dynamic.

Szelepcsenyi is the bubble player, 2 more eliminations

2017/05/09 - 14:04 by

After just 2 hands, Frank Szelelpcsenyi got it in holding a solid 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs, only to find chip leader Martin Finger left to act behind him holding King of Clubs King of Clubs. The board ran out cleanly for the Kings and Frank hit the rail.

This also brought the end of hand for hand play. Jacob Snider was moved to balance the tables and play continued. It was just a one or two hands later that short-stacked Feizal Satchu was eliminated in 12th place and the first to cash in the tournament.

On the other table, immediately after Feizal went out, so did David Valcourt-Dubé, and the tournament was down to 10 players – the final table.

Nickoletopoulos out, play is now hand for hand

Nick Nicoletopoulos is a talented local player with a tendency to go deep in big local tournaments, and this Second Chance3 event was no exception – although he’ll be disappointed to have gone out before the money bubble broke.

In any case, he had gotten so short stacked that he had no option but to ship or fold – and after at least 3 hands in which he didn’t find a partner and managed to just pick up the blinds and antes, he finally found a dance partner – who took him out of the event.

Play now continues hand for hand with just 13 remaining in the event.

Villa doubles through Lefort

Alexander Villa’s stack had dwindled quite a bit, but he’s doubled back up well past the 100K mark in a hand against Thomas Lefort, who is still reasonably strong despite losing the hand.

We arrived at the table with a full board already dealt: 3 of Clubs Jack of Hearts Ace of Clubs 7 of Hearts 10 of Hearts and a check from Villa in early position. Lefort had laid out a larger bet than the slightly over 50K Villa had behind… Alexander went in the tank, but not for too long before he made the hero call with 2nd pair – and was good!

If the Second Chance event started part of the way to “bubble mode” with 16 players left and 12 to be paid, then it’s all the way there now. Andre Lettau and Andrew Macdonald have both been eliminated in the early play, leaving just 14 players at the tables at the moment.
