The $300 + $30 NL Hold’em 8-Max Champion: Christopher Savov

2017/05/09 - 6:17 by Jôle Simard

Event 6 was a one-day tournament that attracted 251 players. Although it was a very nice field for a one-night tournament, the number is not surprising as the 8-max structure has been a player’s favorite for a long time. The field was populated with local players that were eagerly waiting for an affordable event to jump in, as well as some high profile players who wanted to digest their Main Event experience by playing a casual tournament, and there were some interesting face offs.

26 players received prizes tonight, and the first 7 were modified according to slightly adjusted ICM numbers, which are reflected in their published payouts. As usual for Trophy Events, there had to be 2% of the prize pool ($1,500.00) left up top for the winner. After the deal, play accelerated considerably. Finalists were dropping, sometimes 2 at a time, until Christopher Savov was left alone, the happy winner of Event #6.

The 8-max Champion: Christopher Savov – $9,715.00 and the Champion’s Trophy

Runner-up: Yohann Wagner – $8,901.00

We missed the action of Alexandre Blanc’s elimination hand, but witnessed St-Armand go out with Queen of Hearts 4 of Hearts. He ended up with the worst end of a pre-flop all-in, facing Ace of Spades 5 of Spades, and failing to improve on a 6 of Clubs 10 of Clubs Jack of Clubs 7 of Diamonds King of Spades board.

4th place: Alexandre Blanc, $7,505.00

Savov shoved from the small blind with, and was met by a call from Caron St-Georges in the bib blind.

Christopher Savov: 10 of Spades 5 of Spades
Étienne Caron St-Georges: Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs

Board: 8 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 4 of Clubs

Savov tried to buy the blinds, but instead he hit a big turn for the win.

Étienne Caron St-Georges: 5th place – $7,865.00

The ICM numbers were brought to the table, and all but Sébastien Proulx agreed. Proulx had the shortest stack, and he found that his proposed prize-to-be was too much smaller than that of his opponents. 3 of the other players chipped in to adjust it, and the dealer started shuffling: an agreement had been reached.

On the first hand after the pause, 3 players got it in.

Karam Saleh: 8 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds
Sébastien Proulx: King of Hearts Jack of Diamonds
James St-Armand: Ace of Clubs Queen of Diamonds

Board: Queen of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs 5 of Spades Jack of Clubs

Since James covered them both, he took down the pot and so increased his chance of taking down the tournament.

7th place: Sébastien Proulx, $6,485.00

6th place: Karam Saleh, $6,455.00

Daune Fernandez goes out in 8th

  • Small Blind: 30K
  • Big Blind: 60K
  • Ante: 5K
  • Chip Average: 896.4K
  • Remaining: 8
  • Entries: 251

We unfortunately missed the exact action of Daune Fernandez’ elimination hand, but we know that he shoved from the small blind with King high, and was called by Yohann Wagner who had an Ace. The best hand held, and Daune went home with $2,150.

Players are now looking at ICM numbers, and should an agreement be made, we will publish the new prizes.

8th place: Daune Fernandez, $2,150.00

Stuart Taylor is our first final table casualty

  • Level: 22
  • Small Blind: 30K
  • Big Blind: 60K
  • Ante: 5K
  • Chip Average: 784.4K
  • Remaining: 8
  • Entries: 251

2017/05/09 - 4:29 by Jôle Simard

Stuart Taylor open-shoved from an early position with about 450K, and was called by chip leader Christopher Savov.

Stuart: King of Spades Queen of Spades
Christopher: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

Board: 3 of Hearts Jack of Spades Ace of Hearts 9 of Hearts 7 of Hearts

Christopher flopped 2 pairs, and backed into a flush for the knockout. The rich get richer!

9th place: Stuart Taylor, $1,620.00
