Today’s turbo starting flight has just completed and another 96 players (according to the tournament clock) have booked their way into Day 2 in the WPT500. Players are now bagging up their chips, and these will rapidly be assigned to new tables for Day 2 and transported by tournament staff to the correct location to resume play.

We’ll be posting full results of today’s flight in addition to a revised seating draw with all of the new qualifiers included as soon as both are made available by tournament staff.

At long last, registration in the WPT500 has closed in the 10th and final starting flight in the event. There were a total of 286 entries (including 65 re-entries) in Day 1G, meaning that the full total over the 3 online and 7 live Day 1s was 2,536 – a very strong total that will add up to a prize pool that greatly surpasses the $1,000,000 prize pool that was guaranteed in the tournament.

The players in Day 1G are already down to their final few levels of play, which is set to wrap up at 2:15pm. Day 2, scheduled for 3:00pm, will likely get started a little bit later than that, but any delay won’t be too long.

Turbo Day 1G continues to move along at a rapid pace, and the players have just taken their only break of the day following 10 levels of 15 minutes each. During the break we looked for all stacks that were at least double the chip average – and found the following 7 players with over 100K. Kevin Javier is the chip leader at this point, though with the blinds going up so quickly its a very volatile situation.

Mohammed Moayeri was sitting pretty with 3 of Spades 4 of Spades on a board reading 7 of Spades 5 of Hearts 6 of Hearts Jack of Spades – he had a made straight with a redraw to a baby flush – against an opponent that showed down Ace of Diamonds 8 of Hearts – two straight draws – but Moayeri had a blocker. No matter: the 4 of Diamonds came on the river, and all Moayeri could do was smile and say, “That’s poker!” He has since been eliminated and re-entered.

The action in the Turbo flight is, if anything, moving faster than predicted, and it’s very busy with 201 entries including 20 re-entries – and another 100 minutes of late registration permitted!

Here are a few more photos of the field taken during level 6.

Andrew Dick – better known as Burr – just doubled to over 80K as his pocket Ace of Spades Ace of Hearts held against Trevor Roy’s Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds. The chips were all in preflop, and after the players showed down, the flop was dealt: 9 of Hearts King of Hearts 3 of Spades 7 of Clubs 8 of Clubs. Burr noted that the King on the flop gave him a sweat… as the dealer counted down his stack…
