There are just 18 players remaining in the WPT500 and they just took their first break of the day. While the players were absent from the table we were able to get full counts of the remaining players. Trevor Argue is the current leader, but with 2 players within a million chips of his count, he can’t take anything for granted.

    Redraw at 24 players

    2018/10/30 | 13:39 by

The clock has been paused in the WPT500 as the eliminations have continued to come at a rapid pace and the field has been reduced to 24 players remaining. Among the recent eliminations are Matthew Wilkins, Jean-Pascal Gauthier, and Eric Afriat, whose run today started so strongly. The main beneficiary of Eric’s chips seems to have been Vasilios Gerontakos, who is now up to a tournament-leading 10,515,000.

We arrived at the table after the action had closed, but Thomas Downer was all in for under 1M, Miguel Goncalo was all in for slightly more (790K) and Geoffrey Hum – who covered both by a long way – having was still in as well.

Miguel: Queen of Clubs Jack of Clubs
Geoffrey: King of Diamonds Ace of Hearts
Thomas: Jack of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds

The flop came down 8 of Clubs 7 of Clubs King of Spades putting Geoffrey in the lead, but giving Miguel a winning draw – and he was calling for a club as the 5 of Diamonds was dealt on the turn… and then the 6 of Clubs on the river, giving him the flush.

Miguel improved his stack to around 2.2M and is now approaching the chip average with 26 players remaining.

There will be many more photos to come today, but here are a few from the first level played today.

Afriat gets Patenaude on the river

    • Level: 29
    • Small Blind: 40K
    • Big Blind: 80K
    • BB Ante: 80K
    • Chip Average: 2.4M
    • Remaining: 32

Mike Patenaude has been eliminated by Eric Afriat after confidently shoving his final 1M in chips on the river on a board reading 8 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds. Mike declared his straight and turned over the Jack of Diamonds Queen of Clubs – he had it on the flop – and when Eric revealed his 8 of Clubs 6 of Clubs for a full house, Mike was clearly surprised, perhaps even shocked. Eric covered him, and Mike left in 34th place.

Following this hand, Eric was up to over 3.5M. At another table, Glenn Millar was eliminated in 33rd position and the tournament is now down to 4 tables.
