Although the WPT500 Day 1B has only been running for a little more than three hours, table 79 has witnessed more busts than any other so far tonight. Of the 26 busts that have occurred, 4 happened at table 79. An even more interesting fact? All the players that busted were sitting in the same seat!

Carlo Nini (seat 2) took out the table 79’s latest victim, Jose De La Cruz (seat 1) in the following manner:

With the average chip stack at 37,000 and the blinds at 200/400, Jose opened the action with a raise to 1000. There were three calls.

Flop: 10 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs

Jose raised to 1000, and we re-raised by Carlo to 7700. The other two players at the table folded, but Jose decided to call. The turn came down a 5 of Clubs.

Jose was utg and checked, and Carlo raised to 7,000. Jose, looking at his stack and realizing he was more or less pot-committed, went all in. Carlo called him, showing a flush with his 7 of Clubs 8 of Clubs. Jose flipped over his Queen Ten with no clubs, and was drawing dead. Seat number 1 claimed another victim!

The question was, will the next player be able to turn the luck of seat 1 around? We didn’t have to wait long for an answer.

Fabio Luongo – brother of famed NHL goalie Roberto – sat down next, playing his first hand of the night. He ended up in a battle against Carlo as well, and threw caution to the win by going all in on his first hand!

When we joined the action, Fabio was holding two clubs, and needed a club on the river to beat Carlo’s three Queens. Instantly reversing the curse, he spiked a flush on the river, and doubled up. Fabio is now sitting on a comfortable 60,000 in chips after one hand of play, and there is plenty more action to come.

The first of 7 Live Day 1 flights in the WPT500 has wrapped up with 45 players qualified for Day 2 out of the 244 entries (and re-entries) today. When time ran out on level 16, the tournament director called for 3 more hands to be played.

The Day 1A chip leader was Jonathan Bussieres with a huge stack of 542,000 chips. The full results of Day 1A have now been added to the WPT500 Combined Day 1 Results table.

It has already been a day full of action here at Playground Poker Club on Day 1A of the $500 + $50 WPT. Presently the average chip stack is approximately 150,000, with blinds at 2K and 4K. There are only fifteen minutes left in the final level of the day, level 16, and the field of 244 entrants has been whittled down to only 49 players.

Anyone still holding chips at the end of the day will have earned the opportunity to come back for Day 2. However, there are still 6 Day 1s scheduled to take place before then (including tonight’s Day 1B). Come on down and try your luck!

The following photos were taken during level 13, and include some of the bigger stacks left in play. Good luck to all those players who will make the cut for Day 2!

Excitement occurred at table 32. Preflop, Sylvain Lessard bet 6,500. Chip leader at seat 8, Thomas Zanot called. Pryde, sitting to Zanot’s left went all in.

Sylvain didn’t hesitate. He also pushed his entire stack into the pot. Thomas debated for a moment, shuffling his chips, before he folded.

Both players revealed their cards.  Sylvain revealed King of Spades Ace of Diamonds and John showed 5 of Clubs 5 of Spades.

The dealer dealt the flop 3 of Spades Queen of Hearts 5 of Diamonds and John flashed a smile. The turn was a 4 of Clubs and the river 10 of Spades. John’s set of fives helped him to more than double up.
