On table 87 we just witnessed an all in by Martin Dyotte. When we arrived at the table, the cards had already been dealt, and the only thing we were waiting for was his oponent’s Noy U’s decision.

Board: 3 of Spades 9 of Spades Jack of Clubs 10 of Clubs 6 of Spades

The decision was easy for Noy, and when Martin flipped over his Ace of Hearts King of Spades, it was easy to see why. Noy had caught the nut flush on the river Ace of Spades 9 of Spades, and he doubled up to 65,000.

As the today’s WPT DeepStacks Day 1B continues, players continue to test each others’ mettle, pushing and prodding to see what kind of pressures delivers the best results.

On table 77, the battle has continued in this fashion, with the result being that very often a player will win the hand without having to expose their cards. The most recent example of that occurred just a few minutes ago, as Steven Martin successfully pushed out Ajay Chabra.

With a pot of about 8,000 in play and the board showing 8 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts, Steven shoved all in for 25,000, winning himself the hand. And just a few hands prior to that at the same table, it was Bradley Coultas that pulled the same trick on Steven and another player, Richard Blom.

In that case, the board showed a 9 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts, leading to an initial bet of 1,500 by Bradley. It was called by Steven and Richard, and a Jack of Spades came down on the turn. The table proceeded to check all the way around and the river came a 3 of Hearts. All it took was a sizeable bet of 6,000 by Bradley to push Steven and Richard out of the hand.

Once again, no one had an opportunity to see the winner’s cards. Perhaps next hand we will!

Douglas James leads the way through the WPTDeepStacks Day 1A

    2018/11/01 | 21:12 by Playground Poker

The first of five Live WPTDeepStacks flights has officially come to a close with 41 players qualifying for Day 2 action. Today’s Day 1A chip leader was Douglas James with 250,000 chips. He is followed closely behind by Yuan Li with 241,500.

Through 9 levels of late registration, there were 157 entries (including 27 re-entries). The players that remain after the full 12 levels of play are the first qualifiers for Day 2 action. There are still three more “regular” Day 1 flights remaining including Day 1B, on now, plus one Turbo Day 1.

Today’s qualifiers will return for Day 2 action at 12:00pm on Saturday.

    2018/11/01 | 20:15 by Playground Poker

After winning an enormous pot just a few hands earlier, and simultaneously whittling away at the WTPDeepStacks Day 1A stack leader, Joseph Sullivan’s chip count, Daniel McLaren went on to win three of the next four hands.

In this particular case, Ajay Gnanasambanthan raised to 2,500, preflop. Daniel and Nabil Karass both called. The flop came down 4 of Clubs 6 of Clubs King of Spades. Having won more than 70,000 chips only moments earlier, Daniel was in a position to throw his weight around and raised to 4,500.

Neither Nabil nor Ajay were interested in calling, and both tossed their cards back to the dealer.

    Arvanitis muscles out the crowd

    2018/11/01 | 20:05 by Playground Poker

We are approaching the first break of the evening, and Chris Arvanitis just muscled out a crowd with an all in to win a relatively small pot.

The board was showing a 5 of Clubs Queen of Hearts 8 of Spades when Jun Ishii led out with a bet of 1,300. It was called by both Gabriel Attiave and Conrad Corrigan, but that was too many cooks in the kitchen for Chris, who shoved in the face of three hesitant players.

He ended up taking down the pot of about 5,000 by risking all his chips (approximately 20,000). A risky play, but it worked. That’s poker!
