The celebrations

One of the first things the players do at the end of the tournament is take photos – lots of photos!

Here’s a slideshow of the photos following Amir Babakhani’s win in the PartyPoker.net WPT Canadian Spring Championship.

Amir FTW!

After seeing Barry double twice to build a stack that could threaten him, the players got it in again on a flop of 5 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds. The players both had trips – Barry the 5 of Hearts 4 of Hearts and Amir with 5 of Spades 8 of Clubs. The turn came 2 of Clubs to give Barry some chop outs to the straight – but take away chop outs because of Amir’s better kicker. The Queen of Clubs came on the river and it was all over – Amir Babakhani is the 2013 WPT Canadian Spring Champion!

Barry doubles, and doubles again

In two stunning hands within minutes of each other Barry has doubled and doubled again to bring his stack to around 8M compared with 13M for Amir.

In the first hand, Barry (who had chipped down to just 2M or a little more) shoved his pocket tens – only to make quads by the river! On the second hand both players flopped pairs but by the river, Barry needed a jack and only a jack to win… and he spiked the Jack of Hearts to win the pot.

Heads up!

The players are now heads up – Amir Babakhani and Barry Kruger are vying for the WPT Canadian Spring Championship. There’s a load of cash on the table and of course the amazing Championship belt. Blinds have risen to 100K/200K/a25K and though the heads-up portion of the event started with Amir ahead in chips 15.5M to 6.5M, since play began Amir has increased his lead to 18.2M to 4M.

Heads up action

Players are taking a short break as we prepare for heads up action – the tournament will resume shortly.

Jason Duval, 3rd place

Jason Duval has been eliminated in 3rd place. He had been short stacked for a while and though he made a run at the beginning of this level, he quickly found himself short again. He got it in with Queen of Spades 9 of Spades and was called by Amir’s Ace of Spades 4 of Clubs. Although the Jack of Hearts 10 of Hearts 3 of Spades came on the flop to give Jason many more outs, and the turn Jack of Spades added flush outs, the river 3 of Hearts was a blank and Jason is eliminated.

Barry doubles through Amir

Ace-Queen has been great to Amir tonight, so it wasn’t a huge surprise when he called Barry’s 4-bet shove with Ace of Diamonds Queen of Hearts – only to see Barry’s Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds. Barry kept the lead and doubles to around 8M while Amir drops to just over 11M. Jason is 3rd in chips at the moment with under 3M.

Bobby Liang out 4th

Any A is a playable hand 4-way, and unfortunately for Bobby the Ace of Diamonds 2 of Hearts he chose to get it in with was dominated by Jason’s Ace of Hearts 9 of Clubs. Bobby got some more outs when the flop came 8 of Hearts 4 of Clubs 3 of Hearts but blanks on the turn and river kept Jason out front and Bobby is eliminated in 4th place.

Bébé Chien is making a run

Jason Duval is one of the more accomplished players at this Final Table and after getting extremely short-stacked he’s starting to make a run. First he doubled through Amir to build his stack to around 2.5M and shortly after that he stacked Bobby to build even more. Amir is still way ahead in terms of the count, but now both Jason and Barry have some chips to work with and try and change that situation.
