Day 2 in the Playground 500 will get underway in several minutes and with just 149 players starting the day competing for 71 payouts, the competition will almost certainly be sharp right from the get-go today. Players won’t be under bubble pressure right away, but with the usual flurry of short-stacked players going for a quick double-up, the tournament should move quickly to the century mark (100 players left) and then the bubble will be just around the corner.

There are two tables to play close attention to as the day begins. Table 70 is one of just two tables that will start with 2 players among the top 10% in terms of stack size – and there are only two players on this table with below-average starting stacks – there are lots of chips to compete for on this table! Not to mention that one of those two below-average players is none other than Tam Ho, an experienced player who knows how to go deep in a tournament.

The other table to watch also has two monster stacks – Table 59, in seat 6 and seat 9. Denis Cyr will start with 587K – and the player utg on each of his buttons will be Valerie Vaillancourt with 607K to start the day. Fireworks are definitely possible from these two action players – but the danger doesn’t end with the big stacks on this table. Table 59 will also host Ahmad Baalbaki, Pablo Mariz, Mitchael Ferguson, Michael Korovine, and Bill Kontaratos – each of whom is a skilled and extremely dangerous player. Fireworks guaranteed!

All four Day 1s in the Playground 500 are now complete and 151 stacks completed a Day 1 with chips to qualify for Day 2. Two players qualified through 2 Day 1s, and each of these players’ smaller stacks has been removed from the tournament, leaving 149 players set to resume the tournament on Day 2 at 1:00pm on December 17th.

Players have just returned from their second break, during which we were able to confirm that Michel Lemieux had retained his chip lead (and added significantly more chips to his stack as well). At the same time, though, there are now a few players within striking distance of the current leader, including very experienced players like Pablo Mariz and Eric Benhamron.

There are another 6 levels to be played tonight, and through 8 levels there are just 115 players vying for their spot in Day 2. Registration has now closed in the tournament as well, so final numbers for today and the entire field plus the prize pool will be available shortly.

This is the final starting flight in the event, and as play has moved into level 7, there is just this level, the next level, and the break following during which players can enter or re-enter the event.

A few experienced players are taking advantage of the structure and we’ve seen experienced players like Mike Leah, Ruben Perceval, Gary Lucci, and Debra Ann Holman among the recent re-entries.

For these players, there is no other goal at this point in the tournament but to build as big a possible stack to take to Day 2 – and the prize pool keeps going up as a result!

The players in Day 1C have just taken their first break of the flight and during the break we found that although there were several players that had built up their stack – including Mike Leah with around 85K – there was truly only one chip leader so far. Michel Lemieux has built up a stack totalling 146,200 at this early stage in the tournament.
