    Event #6 champion: Jean-Francois M

    2018/03/27 - 4:21 by Shawn McCrory

Event #6 capped off the March Power Weekend with yet another big turnout. The final tournament of the series, the $200 + $30 + $100 NL Hold’em 6-Max Bounty, brought out 131 players, enough to easily surpass the $30,000.00 guarantee.

The early levels played out like many bounty tournaments: the action was loose and aggressive as players tried their best to capture as many $100 bounty chips as possible. Following the first break, the tournament took on a different character altogether – the deep stacks and huge prize pool encouraged players to control the size of the pots in their efforts to make a deep run into the money. This trend continued all the way to the money bubble when play slowed down dramatically.

The hand-for-hand play on the bubble lasted for nearly an hour as the short stacks in the field were doubled up when facing elimination on four separate occasions. The long bubble seemed to exhaust the players’ patience because immediately after it burst there was a quick succession of bust outs that brought about the final table faster than anyone expected.

Upon reaching the final table, the players agreed to an ICM chop of the prize pool that secured everyone a healthy profit for the evening. From there, the action went crazy as players moved all-in, blind in some cases, happy to flip for the remaining $500.

The dynamics changed once again when all but two players, Jean-Francois M and Cedric Quenneville, had been eliminated. The two finalists changed gears and played a brief heads-up match until two strong hands clashed and a winner was ultimately decided.

    Event #6 champion: Jean-Francois M – $5,500

Before a single hand was dealt at the final table, the players agreed to an ICM chop of the remaining prize pool.

Here are the numbers, according to the ICM chop:

    NamePrize
    Jean-Francois M$5,000.00
    Cedrick Quenneville$3,461.00
    Diego Aguilar$2,425.00
    Pierre Marquette$2,170.00
    Patrick Williams$2,100.00
    Moshe Cohen$1,735.00
    Michael Mckinnon$1,620.00

Play continues as they play for the remaining $500 that will go to the winner. The mood is lively and the players are getting it in with (almost) any two cards. The chip leader, Jean-Francois M, has been running hot and finding ways to capture bounty chips even while going all-in blind before the flop.

The field in the 6-Max Bounty has been quickly reduced to the final seven players, who are now taking their seats at the final table.

Maxime Laberge was eliminated in 9th place, earning him $710.00 and Dany Noel busted in 8th, good for $800.00. Jean-Francois M has dispatched the majority of the players since the bubble burst and he now holds nearly half of the chips in play.

The players are currently negotiating a potential chop of the remaining prize pool.

After over an hour without any movement in the field for hand-for-hand play, the flood gates are now open as a flurry of bust outs in the 6-Max Bounty: Eight players hit the rail in the span of 15 minutes. The field is now down to 9 players on the final two tables.

Mathyeu Provost and Maxim Caron-Turcotte took 17th and 16th place, respectively, earning them $480.00 each. Ara Asatoorian, Richard Berenbaum and Richard Sysko followed suit shortly after in 15th,14th and 13th for $550.00 each. Levon Dedeyan was then eliminated in 12th, followed by Serge Roy in 11th and Maxime Jutras in 10th, they will each take home $630.00.

The players have returned to their seats following their fourth break of the evening. The pace of the tournament slowed to a crawl prior to the break with more than two levels of hand for hand play.

The blinds crept up on the field, further reducing the number of blinds provided by an average stack to roughly 15. Jean-Francois M and Asa Asatoorian were the two players collecting the most chips prior to the hand-for-hand play and they are now at the top of the leaderboard.

Here are the largest stacks in play:

After more than two levels of hand-for-hand play, the bubble has finally burst in the 6-Max Bounty. When the field was down to 18, several players suggested making a deal to pay the bubble, however, the proposition was rejected. This situation gave way to a very long bubble that saw short stacks get doubled up on four separate occasions.

The players finally made the money when Ara Asatoorian sent Roger Stacey packing. Stacey moved all-in from middle position with Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds and Asatoorian made the call from his big blind with 10 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts. The board, Queen of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 5 of Spades, was safe for Stacey, but the 10 of Clubs on the turn gave Asatoorian the lead, and the 8 of Hearts river made it official. The bubble had burst and Asatoorian collected yet another bounty.
