Chip movements have not favored the bigger stacks in the last stint, and as a result, we have a new lineup at the top of the food chain. Kurtis Lee David Brooks leads with a very healthy 145K stack, and is followed by Jean-Pascal Gauthier and Mingzhe Zhang.

Here is the new top 5:

With about 30K in the pot, Karim Hamdani bet out 18,000 chips, keeping another handful of reds behind. He was eye-balling his opponent, former chip leader Richard Shamshoum. Time has been called, and with a floor manager behind him, the dealer waited. Shamshoum finally called, only to find out that the turn he thought was providence had cost him most of his chips.

Richard Shamshoum: Ace of Clubs Jack of Hearts
Karim Hamdani: Ace of Hearts 7 of Hearts

Board: 7 of Diamonds 7 of Spades 8 of Clubs Ace of Spades King of Diamonds

Martin Gaudreault was all-in for about 7K, and facing two giants. However, these were twin giants, and Gaudreault only had one hand to beat, really:

Martin Gaudreault: Queen of Hearts Jack of Hearts
Bill Kontaratos: King of Spades King of Clubs
Michele Oriente: King of Hearts King of Diamonds

Board: Jack of Diamonds 8 of Spades Queen of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts

    Martin Gaudreault
    Bill Kontaratos
    Michele Oriente

The turn brought a lot of instability, but the river came an absolute brick, and Gaudreault tripled up. Bill, at least, dodged a diamond on the river to save the rest of the all-in chips, which was a much bigger amount than the one he had to surrender.

222 entries were rounded up in this starting flight, which brings our total to 464, including the online flight.

Table 56 counts 3 players on our current top 5 list. We went over there right after the break to take some extra information, and saw 3 players all-in!

The field has just grown to over 200 entries, with 2 more levels to the registration and re-entry period. Here is our top 5 at the first break:

We unfortunately didn’t get to witness the action on this hand, but the showdown was quite a sight. Félix Langevin had flopped a set of queens, and was probably luring Giovanni Giannitti into investing as many chips as possible. However, Giannitti’s flopped gut shot turned into a gut shot nut flush draw. Here are the cards that were tabled:

Langevin: Queen of Hearts Queen of Diamonds
Giannitti: King of Hearts 10 of Hearts

Board: Ace of Hearts 9 of Spades Queen of Clubs 3 of Hearts Jack of Spades

Langevin, after hitting a dream board, got crushed by the run out and was left with one big blind. As you can see in the image, he took the beat like a champ.

Frenkel pulls the upset to stay alive

Genia Frenkel was down to her last 5K when she found a suited ace. After 2 players limped in, she threw her chips forward. Jean-Pierre Guay was the on;y one to call her, probably figuring her range was pretty large and was looking to get lucky or re-enter.

Frenkel: Ace of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds
Guay: Ace of Clubs 9 of Diamonds

Board: King of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 3 of Spades 7 of Diamonds

Gin on the flop! Frenkel will have to save her money for better use. Meanwhile, Jonathan Dsouza, on another table, was flopping his own flush. He gained almost 20K in that pot. When Deveshkumar Patel called 9K on the river, we did not get to see his hand, but he did say that he had flopped top 2 pair on the board:

King of Clubs 3 of Spades Ace of Spades 4 of Hearts 8 of Spades

    Dsousa: 9 of Spades 7s

    Genia Frenkel
    Jonathan Dsouza
