Joël Giguère emerges from Day 2 as the clear leader

    2018/03/25 - 20:30 by Jôle Simard

Day 2 of the Playground 200 is in the books. From a starting field of 157 players, only 23 survived the 10 levels that were on today’s schedule. These players will be back tomorrow night for the conclusion of tournament and the Power Weekend.

The last moments were quite dramatic. First, Isham Yamani lost a 1M pot to Aex Barbosa in a heartbreaking fashion:

Yamami: King of Spades King of Diamonds
Barbosa: 9 of Spades 9 of Diamonds

Board: 6 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts 4 of Spades

The turn came like a thunderstorm, and Yamani was left with about 2 big blinds, 3 hands before the end of the day.

He folded one, then committed from the under-the-gun position. Both Bao Ngoc Phu and Brigitte Métivier tagged along, even creating a bit of a side pot. On the flop, Phu checked the action, and Métivier bet out strong. Phu raised all-in, which was met by a swift call.

Métivier: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs
Phu: King of Diamonds 10 of Spades
Yamani: 10 of Hearts 7 of Hearts

Board: Queen of Hearts Jack of Hearts Ace of Spades 9 of Diamonds King of Clubs

Bao Ngoc Phu and Brigitte Métivier

Brigitte was thus eliminated one hand before the end of Day 2, while Isham chopped the main pot to stay alive. He then got a walk, and will be back tomorrow night.

Joël Giguère will be starting Day 3 with a crushing stack of 1,810,000 chips. The full counts and seating draw for Day 3 will be posted momentarily. Here is the millionaire’s club:

George Ciucuireanu got to a table very short, and doubled his chips as he was sitting down with Ace of Hearts 8 of Hearts against Ace of Clubs Queen of Spades. Minutes later, his table broke and he had to move again. He got it in on his new table, this time with Gabriel DT. They went to the track:

Ciucuireanu: 6 of Spades 6 of Diamonds
Gabriel DT: Ace of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Board: King of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts 2 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds

Ciucuireanu is closing in on the average, as the last level unfolds.

Joey Mccomber, Michael Mckinnon and Mathieu Aymerich had a preflop war, and when the bullets stopped flying, all 3 were all-in:

Joey Mccomber: 8 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs
Michael Mckinnon: Jack of Clubs Jack of Hearts
Mathieu Aymerich: King of Clubs King of Hearts

Board: Ace of Hearts 6 of Hearts 7 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds

Aymerich was the biggest stack from the online Day 1, and started Day 2 in 12th position. This very healthy pot just brought him up to almost 900K.

Meanwhile, on the neighbouring table, Gabriel DT survived a 4-way all-in. His micro stack is now a workable 300K. Tanvir Ahmed was part of that all-in with the second-shortest stack, after his fortune was lost to Robert Dagenais with ace-king versus ace-king!!

The field now counts a few millionaires, and is led by Dagenais, whose lucky flush got him to almost 1.5M.

Bao Ngoc Phu is on top of our updated leaderboard, with only two 40-minute levels before the end of Day 2. Thirty-eight players are hustling on five tables, soon to be four.

Joël Giguère is still in second position, while Jean-Maurice Lauzon, who was the first to break 1M chips, has dropped to a little under 400K.

Brigitte Métivier was all smiles after surviving her all-in against Alex Barbosa. When Alex opened the pot, Brigitte 3-bet all-in right away for about 230K, not letting anyone come in for cheap. Barbosa, however, had a premium too. Little did he know, he was far behind.

Brigitte Métivier: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs

Brigitte is now over average. With 45 players left in the field, the minimum pay for these survivors is $600. There are two more hours of play to the day.
