Tournament staff have just made the opening announcements for Day 1A of the WPT500, Event #1 in the 2018 WPT Montreal! This is the first of 7 total Live Day 1s in the event, and follows 3 Online Day 1s that were held from Sunday to Tuesday this week.
Action is now underway and just 6 minutes into level 1, there are already 103 players seated. Late registration continues until the beginning of level 11 – so there’s still plenty of time for the field to grow throughout the day. This is a single re-entry event, meaning that 1 entry and 1 re-entry are permitted per Day 1 – and with a prize pool guaranteed at $1,000,000, there’s definitely enough value to warrant a few buy-ins per player – if they need them!
There are already 45 players qualified for Day 2 in the event through the Online Day 1s, and everyone in the field today will be vying to join them – or to come back and try again in a later Day 1.
Good luck to everyone in the field today, and throughout the WPT500.

Michael Khan has emerged as the leader in the WPT500 following Online Day 1C, which was held yesterday evening on partypoker. The field of 76 entries played through 16 levels in the flight, and when the conclusion was reached, Michael had amassed an impressive 365,000 in chips to take to Day 2.
He will be joined by a few other players we’re familiar with who qualified through Day 1C, including Martin Raus (143,000), Samuel Chartier (107,000), and 2013 WPT Canadian Spring Champion Amir Babakhani (72,000), among many others – the qualifying field from Day 1C was a virtual who’s who of players who have had a great deal of success here at Playground in the past.
The WPT500 now moves into its Live phase, with Live Day 1A set to begin on Friday October 26 at 12:00pm. There will be a total of 7 Live starting flights in the event, so players will have plenty of opportunity to join the 45 people that have already qualified for Day 2.

The second Day 1 in the WPT500 in the WPT Montreal was played last night on partypoker. Online Day 1B had 56 entries, and 11 players managed to book their way through to Day 2 in the tournament, bringing the total number of Day 2 qualifiers up to a total of 26. Day 1B was just as star-studded as Day 1A on Sunday night, and at the end of the 16 levels of play it was Pierre-Marc Chadi in the lead with 227,000 in chips (all counts adjusted to account for the minimum 1K chip value that will be in play to begin Day 2).
There are some other players of note in the Day 1B standings, including Canadian pros Mike Leah (194,000) and Shawn Buchanan (149,000), 2017 WSOP Vegas Monster Stack champ Tommy Nguyen (198,000), and 2018 WSOP-C Playground Main Event champion Danny Freitas (110,000). In addition, there are two well-known and respected qualifiers who, while not locals, have been playing in big events at Playground for as long as we can remember: Bradley Smith (124,000) and Jimmy “Bones” Gall (173,000).
Online Day 1C runs tonight at 9:00pm. Following this, the WPT500 will resume with Live Day 1A on Friday October 26 at 12:00pm.
