PokerStars Canada Cup Main Event Champion: Robert Notkin

In a hand that was as surreal as can be, online satellite qualifier Robert Notkin managed to eliminate the 3 other final players to become the 2014 PokerStars Canada Cup Main Event Champion!

It all started when Robert limped into the pot from under the gun holding King of Clubs King of Hearts, and was followed by an all-in from Justin Miller (400,000) with King of Spades Queen of Hearts, another all-in from Vincent Jacques (7,000,000) with Ace of Hearts 10 of Diamonds, and a third all-in from Ryan Rivers (1,025,00) 8 of Clubs 8 of Hearts. Robert had all three of them covered, and made the call with the second best hand in poker, pocket kings.

The board ran out 3 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds Jack of Spades 7 of Hearts 5 of Clubs, and in just one hand, the tournament went from 4-handed down to one champion: Robert Notkin! His first place finish earned him an impressive $366,660 prize, as well as the PokerStars Canada Cup Champion’s trophy! Not a bad return for a man who invested $30 into a satellite on PokerStars.

Based on the stack sizes, Vincent Jacques placed 2nd place for $257,280, Ryan Rivers in 3rd place for $165,280, and Justin Miller in 4th place for $122,410.

Congratulations Robert Notkin!

Event 12 Champion: Adam Garonce

The final event in a series at Playground Poker Club is often an opportunity for the hard-working staff to join in and compete for a nice prize pool and a trophy – and this year’s Event 12 in the PokerStars Canada Cup was no exception. It’s probably added EV for the other participants in the event, though, because at the end of a long series, staff who play are often exhausted after many days in a row of hard work and long hours.

When all was said and done in this event, it wasn’t a staff member but local player Adam Garonce who emerged victorious, taking home the amazing trophy and $9,000 for his efforts. Congratulations, Adam!
