The end of Day 2…

There are just three players left in the event but the scheduled ending point of 10 levels played today has arrived and the players have decided to call it a night and return tomorrow to play to the end. It has been a gruelling day of poker and everyone is visibly fatigued.

When they return tomorrow they’ll take the same seats and re-start play at 1pm with the following stacks that have been bagged up for storage.

  1. Ami Alibay – 170K
  2. David Yan – 248K
  3. Samuel Chartier – 593K

Down to 3!

  • Level: 18
  • Small Blind: 3K
  • Big Blind: 6K
  • Ante: 1K
  • Chip Average: 340K
  • Remaining: 3
  • Entries: 34

  • Event 4 is now down to the final 3 players, and here is how the chips are spread out:

    1. Samuel Chartier – 521K
    2. Ami Alibay – 370K
    3. David Yan – 136K

    Level 18 has just begun.

    4th place: Jonathan Duhamel

  • Level: 17
  • Small Blind: 2.5K
  • Big Blind: 5K
  • Ante: 500
  • Chip Average: 340K
  • Remaining: 3
  • Entries: 34

  • The former world champion Jonathan Duhamel was on a good run in this High Roller Event of the Pokerstars Canada Cup, but it just came to an end when he 3bet shoved his 114K stack over Samuel Chartier’s 11K open. Samuel made the quick call, and they were off to the flop:

Samuel: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds

Jonathan: 8 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds

Jonathan couldn’t hit anything on the board of 5 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds 3 of Spades 10 of Hearts Jack of Spades, and was send to the cashiers to pick up his earnings.

    4th place: Jonathan Duhamel, $34,520

    Jonathan Duhamel

    5th place: Kevin MacDonald

  • Level: 17
  • Small Blind: 2.5K
  • Big Blind: 5K
  • Ante: 500
  • Chip Average: 255K
  • Remaining: 4
  • Entries: 34

  • In a hand that was made for TV, Kevin MacDonald was crippled to 2bb by David Yan. David opened to 10K from the button, and called Kevin’s all-in of just over 100K from the big blind.

Kevin: 2 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds

David: Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts

The flop was definitely an interesting one, bringing out Ace of Clubs 2 of Spades Ace of Spades. The turn didn’t change much, adding a Queen of Clubs to the board, but the river 10 of Clubs gave David a better full house.

Kevin was left with only 11K behind, and found himself all-in the very next hand with a respectable King of Diamonds 10 of Hearts, but was crushed by Ami Alibay’s Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs on a board of 9 of Clubs King of Hearts Queen of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs.

    5th place: Kevin MacDonald, $24,730

Alibay doubles first hand back from break

  • Level: 17
  • Small Blind: 2.5K
  • Big Blind: 5K
  • Ante: 500
  • Chip Average: 204K
  • Remaining: 5
  • Entries: 34

  • In a hand that nearly played itself at this stage of the tournament, Ali Alibay found himself doubling his 140K stack through David on the first hand back from break. They both got all their chips in on the flop of Ace of Spades Jack of Spades 8 of Clubs, with David holding top-top (Ace of Clubs King of Clubs) and Ami holding a set of jacks (Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts). Ami had the hand locked down by the turn (7 of Hearts), and the river was a meaningless 4 of Diamonds.

Ami is up to almost 300K now, while David dropped down to 120K.

    Time for another break!

  • Level: 17
  • Small Blind: 2.5K
  • Big Blind: 5K
  • Ante: 500
  • Chip Average: 204K
  • Remaining: 5
  • Entries: 34

  • We are on what is scheduled to be the last break of the night, with 2 levels left to go before the 10 levels of Day 2 are completed. Should all the players remaining after these 10 levels agree, the tournament might be played out to completion today. Otherwise it will go on break until Day 3 tomorrow, Thursday May 22nd, at 1pm.

Here are the current chip counts:

    Final Table

    1. Ami Alibay – 140.5K
    2. David Yan – 257.5K

    5. Kevin MacDonald – 165.5K

  • Small Blind: 1.5K
  • Big Blind: 3K
  • Ante: 500
  • Chip Average: 204K
  • Remaining: 5
  • Entries: 34

  • After chipping down in the last few orbits, Timothy Adams was sitting on just over ten big blinds when he got his chips in preflop versus David Yan. Unfortunately for him, he went in as the underdog, and couldn’t manage to double up.

Timothy: Ace of Spades 10 of Hearts

David: Ace of Diamonds King of Spades

Board: 3 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 10 of Clubs 6 of Hearts King of Clubs

    6th place: Timothy Adams, $19,780

    7th place: Jason Duval

  • Small Blind: 1K
  • Big Blind: 2K
  • Ante: 300
  • Chip Average: 170K
  • Remaining: 6
  • Entries: 34

  • With the most recent elimination of Jason Duval in 7th place, Event 4 is now in the money!

Samuel Chartier opened under the gun to 4.5K, and was called by Kevin MacDonald from the small blind. Jason Duval the squeezed all-in from the big blind for around 45K, which got Samuel to fold, but not Kevin, who completed the call.

Jason: Ace of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Kevin: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Board: 3 of Spades 5 of Clubs 7 of Spades Queen of Diamonds 7 of Hearts

    7th place: Jason Duval
