The High Roller Champion: Samuel Chartier

Heads-up action between Ami Alibay and Samuel Chartier was a relatively short affair, as Sam put in a dominating performance and he seemingly had an answer at every turn for anything Ami tried. By the final hand, the stack size had migrated from roughly 50-50 at the outset of 2-way action to about 80-20 in favour of Sam.

The final hand, when it came, came very quickly. After a standard button raise from Ami, Sam pushed all-in and Ami quickly called.

Sam: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs
Ami: Ace of Clubs 9 of Spades

The flop had a little bit for each of them – and would have had more had one of them held any hearts: Queen of Hearts 8 of Hearts 9 of Hearts. The turn Ace of Spades and river 3 of Diamonds couldn’t give Ami any additional help, however, and he was eliminated in 2nd place.

Local poker player, nightclub owner, and DJ Ami Alibay has been eliminated in 2nd place in Event 4 of the PokerStars Canada Cup, a $10,000 + $400 No Limit Hold’em High Roller event. Congratulations Ami!

  • David Yan has been eliminated by Ami Alibay in 3rd place.

Action pre-flop was quite tame – David was on the button and made a small standard raise, Samuel folded and Ami called from the big blind. It went check-check on the flop of 2 of Spades 3 of Hearts 5 of Hearts and check-check again on the turn of 4 of Diamonds. The river brought out the Ace of Spades for a straight on board and Ami, who easily covered David, shoved all-in. David didn’t really tank, but quickly (but resigned to the possibility of bad news) put his stack in the middle by way of a call. Ami flipped over Queen of Spades 6 of Clubs for the higher straight and the win.

  • There are just three players left in the High Roller tournament (aka Event 4), and they have unbagged their chips and are just about ready to play out the final stages of the event.

The pay jumps from 3rd to 2nd to 1st place are huge, so there’s still a lot to play for.

Good luck to all three players – Ami, David, and Samuel.

    The end of Day 2…

There are just three players left in the event but the scheduled ending point of 10 levels played today has arrived and the players have decided to call it a night and return tomorrow to play to the end. It has been a gruelling day of poker and everyone is visibly fatigued.

When they return tomorrow they’ll take the same seats and re-start play at 1pm with the following stacks that have been bagged up for storage.

    1. Ami Alibay – 170K
    2. David Yan – 248K
    3. Samuel Chartier – 593K

  • We missed the action but Sylvain Siebert has been eliminated in 11th place in the High Roller Event. Sylvain, who was crippled a few minutes earlier by Sam Chartier, had picked up a few chips since then, but still was all in for just around 25K. Ankush Mandavia was the player who took Sylvain out, and the tournament is just one spot away from a final table.

  • John Andress has been eliminated in 15th place. He open raised all-in his last (approx) 15K and was promptly called by Timothy Adams, who has in one of the current chip leaders in the tournament.

John: Ace of Hearts 10 of Spades
Timothy: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

The community cards were no help for John: 8 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts 3 of Spades 2 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs and his tournament was over.

  • With the elimination of Patrick Crivell in 17th place, the tournament reached its next seating redraw – but while the redraw info was being posted, another hand was finishing on another table, and Martin Rauss was eliminated as well.

Martin was eliminated when it folded around to him on the button and he shoved 7.9K with Ace of Hearts 8 of Diamonds. He was called from the small blind by David Dong Ming Yan, who held Ace of Spades King of Spades. The board came 4 of Hearts 6 of Clubs 9 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds and David’s AK-high won the hand, sending Martin to the rail.

    Here are the redrawn seats.
