With just 70 players remaining in the All-Stars for Starlight tournament, the bubble is officially looming. But that’s not to say there’s a huge amount of tension in the room – it’s still a $160 tournament, after all, and players seem quick to laugh as well.

We just witnessed such an occasion on Table 68. Eric Dahan was facing a huge bet from John Palmer – the current chip leader – and he asked, “Will you show if I fold?”

John’s only response was to shrug, and Eric went ahead and folded his hand. John mucked his cards which was followed by this exchange:

“I thought you said you’d show if I folded!”

“I just shrugged!”

“True, but I thought it was more of a ‘yes’ shrug than a ‘no’ shrug…”

The players in the All-Stars for Starlight event have just taken their first break of the day and while they were away from the tables we updated the counts of the current chip leaders in the tournament. Towards the end of the last level, John Palmer lost around 90K to Yannick Labattaglia – but is still comfortably in the lead with 478K in chips.

The bubble is just 25 eliminations away…

Half-way there

Play today started with 133 players in the action – 70 players off the min-cash position – and through the first 2+ levels, half of those have already been eliminated, leaving the tournament just 35 spots from min-cash and, at least for the big stacks, bubble play will start in earnest quite soon.

There’s a new chip leader in the tourney at this point as well – John Palmer has managed to accumulate almost 300K more today, putting him at just under the 560K level while no one else has yet breached the 400K mark.

Michailidis doubles through Catellier

Said Michailidis has just doubled through Julien Catellier to vault himself among the chip leaders. We arrived at the table with Julien all-in on the river on a board reading 7 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds 6 of Spades 8 of Clubs. Said had a decision to make, and there was another player behind him yet to act. He went in the tank for about 90 seconds before making the call. The third player folded, but the cards seemed to flash to another player, so the dealer protected the muck in case of a request to see the cards.

The two remaining players tabled their hands:

Julien: Jack of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds
Said: Queen of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds

It turned out that the 3rd player who folded had let go of the 10 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds for a third made flush…

Said is now up to around 330K in chips.

Table 65 has started the day with 3 of the top 10 chip leaders to begin Day 2: Prosper Azoulay (1st, 283,500), Alex Plourde (5th, 226,000), and Steve Pouliot (9th, 202,500). We’ll keep a close eye on the action there to see if any fireworks are on offer between the big stacks.

There has also been a slight modification of the schedule for the day – play will continue for a minimum of 12 levels – but the goal will be to play until the tournament has reached a final table (10 players remaining). Regardless, if the final table is reached before the end of level 26, play will be halted.

This change is practical and possible due to the fact that there were only 133 players to start the day (and just 129 remain, 10 minutes into the first level of the day).

Due to some bridge work and the increased traffic that came with it, the Tournament Director has elected to delay the beginning of today’s flight by 15 minutes to allow people the opportunity to resume play with a minimum of disruption.

Play will resume at exactly 12:15pm – in 10 minutes.

The players have assembled around their new tables, unbagged their chips and are now ready to resume play in the All-Stars for Starlight tournament!

Play will continue today with 133 players at the tables and the money bubble will be reached once the player is eliminated in 64th place – 63 spots pay. Play will then continue until just 27 players remain – at which time those players will bag up their chips to return for Day 3.

There’s a long way to go until then, however… good luck to everyone still in the tournament!

All-Stars for Starlight Day 2 seating draw (with counts)

2016/06/18 - 5:43 by

All 4 Day 1s have been completed in the All-Stars for Starlight tournament, and with 685 total entrants, 137 players ended the starting flights with chips. As per the rules of the event, players were permitted to play multiple Day 1s but only their largest stack would remain in the tourney when play resumes for Day 2. There were 4 players who qualified more than once in this tournament: Donald Abdelhay, Andy D’Alessandro, Patrick Gatfalvi, and Gary Saldivia-Odar. Each of these players’ smaller stacks has been removed from play and a total of 133 players will begin the Day 2 restart at 12:00pm today.

The following table contains the random seating draw for all players in the tournament plus the chip count for each player to start Day 2. Click or Tap on a column header to sort the table, or use the search box provided to find a name.
