Our top Bounty Hunter: Normand Deguire

2018/02/26 - 4:30 by Jôle Simard

Tonight’s tournament was a $100 + $20 + $100 Bounty, a format most appreciated by our player base. The 149 players who showed up for the Event testify to that, and blew the 20K guarantee by almost 50%.

Bounties flew, and many multi-way all-in hands took place, as players were going hard after those sweet $100 Bounties. One of those hands saw Yannick Kwan hit a set of tens to quadruple up. Éric Leblond got his kings cracked in that hand and was left with 2,700 chips. A few hours later, with 20 players left, Leblond was in the lead with 385K! He eventually busted after Normand Deguire ate him up in a series of cooler hands.

With 5 left, Deguire and Nazareth Maghakian were sharing the lead, with close to a million chips each. Franco Sicondolfi went out, and that’s when our 4 finalists looked at the ICM numbers. They agreed right away, and after that, the dynamic was very different. Only $300 were left on the line, so people were throwing chips liberally.

As Maghakian was taking some hits, Deguire was taking everybody out. Play slowed down a little bit when it got to heads-up, but despite Maghakian’s efforts to make a comeback and earn the title, Deguire’s stack size prevailed.

An excellent performance by both, who took turns on the job of shrinking the final table. Well done!

Our $100 + $20 + $100 Bounty Champion: Normand Deguire – $2,371

Runner-up: Nazareth Maghakian – $2,419

With 4 players left, a deal was struck. Players accepted the ICM numbers brought to the table by the tournament director. The Event is now a winner-take-all all-in rumble with $300 for first, to be added to the following secured amounts:

First NameLast NameSeatPrize
PatrickTurnerTable 54 - Seat 3$2,187
Harris SethWardTable 54 - Seat 5$1,649
NazarethNaghakianTable 54 - Seat 9$2,419
NormandDeguireTable 54 - Seat 10$2,071

After that, almost every hand was an all-in. Harris Seth Ward was taken out when his Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds was called by Maghakian’s 6 of Clubs 6 of Hearts and Deguire’s 7 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts.

Deguire flopped a boat for the knockout, and left Maghakian with about 600K. Turner then crippled Maghakian, who then won a series of all-in to get back in the game.

Deguire then took Turner out when his Queen of Spades Jack of Hearts hit a pair to beat 6 of Hearts 6 of Spades.

Heads-up begins with 80% of the chips in front of Deguire.

Franco Sicondolfi, after surviving a handful of all-ins where he was behind, busted in 5th. He went all-in from the button with 4 big blinds, and was called by Nazareth Maghakian, who got the check mark after just 3 cards:

Sicondolfi: 10 of Clubs 9 of Spades
Maghakian: Ace of Diamonds 5 of Clubs

Board: Ace of Clubs 5 of Spades Ace of Spades King of Hearts King of Clubs

Sicondolfi cashed $680 for his 5th place finish. Excellent work!

When Keith Sampson raised all-in with 250K, he found a call from Hicham Hammoud.

Sampson: 8 of Diamonds 8 of Spades
Hammoud: Ace of Clubs King of Hearts

Board: 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 2 of Hearts 5 of Diamonds

Hammoud, with 243K, was covered by only 7K. His Bounty went to Sampson, and he made his way to the cashier with a $560 coupon. Good job!

When Nazareth Maghakian limped in from the cut off, the action went to Yannick Kwan, who went all-in from the big blind. Maghakian snap called.

Kwan: King of Spades 10 of Clubs
Maghakian: King of Hearts King of Clubs

Board: 6 of Hearts 4 of Clubs 8 of Spades 10 of Hearts Queen of Clubs

Maghakian’s stack is now rivaling with Normand Deguire.

Sam Chiniara had previously busted in a hand that we missed. Chiniara took 8th, for $440, while Kwan’s 7th place gave him $490.

Congratulations!

Stuart Taylor out in 9th

  • Level: 19
  • Small Blind: 8K
  • Big Blind: 16K
  • Button Ante: 16K
  • Chip Average: 372.5K
  • Remaining: 8
  • Entries: 149

2018/02/26 - 2:24 by Jôle Simard

Stuart Taylor was all-in and at risk in a 3-way pre-flop showdown.

Yannick Kwan: Ace of Hearts King of Hearts
Stuart Taylor: Ace of Diamonds 5 of Hearts
Normand Deguire: King of Diamonds Jack of Clubs

Board: Queen of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 4 of Spades King of Spades 7 of Clubs

Kwan doubled on Deguire and busted Taylor. He is back on average. Deguire, after this loss, is still the overwhelming chip leader with almost a million chips, well ahead of everyone else. Stuart Taylor took $390 for his 9th place finish. Well done!
