Marcello Iacovella: Jack of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds
Carl Doyon: King of Hearts 8 of Clubs

Board: King of Clubs Jack of Clubs 2 of Diamonds 7 of Spades 10 of Spades

Iacovella was down in chips, and after investing quite a few of them on the flop, tried to pick it up by going all-in with nearly 40K. Doyon did not take too long to announce the call.

The Event is now playing on 4 tables, soon to be 3. More than half the remaining field will get paid tonight.

There are now 30 players remaining in the 6-max, just less than a third of the starting field. The rate of bustouts slowed significantly during the last level, as the players are all playing much deeper stacks than earlier in the tournament. Nonetheless, things can change quickly in any poker tournament, especially one with this type of format.

Our chip leader at the last break, Nader Ammar, has managed to maintain his momentum and remains in front of the pack. Several players have crept up to build healthy stacks of over 60 big blinds, but everyone still in the field still has a legitimate shot to cash this event.

Here are the current chip leaders:

Roughly a third of the starting field is still in contention as play continues in level 12. The stacks are deeper and the stakes are higher, with the money bubble on the horizon.

Here are some photos from level 12:

There is no shortage of action in this event, and even the most innocuous boards can lead to huge pots. A hand that just played offers a good illustration.

With the blinds at 400/800, three players – Michael McKinnon, Matthieu Leclerc and Ben Menache – saw a flop of 10 of Spades 4 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts. McKinnon, the first to act, checked to Leclerc who put out a bet of 2,500. Menache, with position on his opponents, made the call. McKinnon then made a huge check-raise and moved all in for over 24,000. This raise chased Leclerc out of the pot, who folded before the all-in card hit the table. The action then came back to Menache, who was clearly caught off guard by the big raise and playing a smaller stack than McKinnon. “I didn’t expect YOU to do that,” Menache said. After a moment in the tank, Menache shrugged and called off his stack, saying “I can’t fold with what I have behind.” Hands were tabled to show McKinnon held Ace of Hearts 10 of Clubs, for top-top, and Menache tabled Queen of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds. The runout, 2 of Spades Queen of Hearts, gave Menache the win with a stronger two pair. It was a strong move from McKinnon, and it put him in a good spot to capture a lot of chips, but the cards didn’t fall his way.

Play continues in level 10 with 42 players left in the field.

The action picked up quickly and shows no signs of slowing down in tonight’s 6-max. The 91-player starting field is already down to 57 and will continue to shrink quickly as the players take every opportunity to force chips from their opponents.

This format certainly favours aggressive players, but one player, Nader Ammar, has taken things to the next level to build an overwhelming chip lead over the field.

Here are the current chip leaders:
