The MVP Champion!

And the winner of the new MVP Belt is… Vince Dwyer!

Vince came from behind and just barely managed to stay in front of second-place finisher Mark Fitzpatrick to win the belt, which is awarded to the player with the overall best record throughout the Playground Poker Fall Classic.

Vince’s path to the MVP didn’t start out quickly – but he did cash in both Event 1 and Event 2. As the Fall Classic drew to a close, though, he rode two great results straight to the top of the standings. In event 12 he ended heads up with Bhupinder and eventually finished in 2nd place – and then he followed it up the very next day with another final table in the Event 13, the $185 + $15 + $100 Bounty tournament. He went out in 9th – but that was enough to put him into first and keep him there.

Congratulations Vince!

Event 13 has come to a conclusion with Mark Fitzpatrick beating out a field of over 200 players to win the $8,158 cash prize and the final championship bracelet to be awarded in the 2013 Playground Poker Fall Classic!

Also among the players to cash in the event was Vince Dwyer in 9th place ($800). His final table finish was just enough to both vault him into first place AND keep him ahead of Mark in the race for the MVP Belt!

Event 13 Update

  • Level: 13
  • Small Blind: 1K
  • Big Blind: 2K
  • Ante: 300
  • Chip Average: 86.8K
  • Remaining: 47
  • Entries: 204

  • Event 13 – the final event in the 2013 Fall Classic – is now in level 13 and there are just 47 players remaining of the 204 that started today.

Much of the attention is on the MVP Belt situation – and there are still 4 players in the tournament today with a chance to gain enough points to surpass the current #1, Gary Lucci. For two of them it’s an outside shot at best – Martin Giguere has to place 2nd (or better) to move into first place – and even then he needs help. For Mark Fitzpatrick it’s an even steeper hill – he has to come in first in the event to pass the leaders. And both of them have to hope that they aren’t sharing the final table with the two players who have a more realistic shot at the MVP Belt.

For both Michael Korovine and Vince Dwyer, a 9th place finish or better (and in Vince’s case, Michael has to be eliminated prior) wins them the belt.

Approximate chip counts for the four who still have a shot:

    • Vince Dwyer – 105K
    • Michael Korovine – 50K
    • Martin Giguere – 35K
    • Mark Fitzpatrick – 100K

    Event 12: Final Payouts

This is the final payout table for Event 12, a $300 + $30 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout event in the Playground Poker Fall Classic.

Note that the players made a deal with 5 players remaining. They reserved $2000 and the championship bracelet for 1st place and $1000 for 2nd place and agreed to a chip chop the rest of the prize pool based on their chip holdings at the time. The following table reflects this player agreement.

Rank First Name Last Name Prize
    1 Bhupinder W $7,880
    2 Vince Dwyer $6,850
    3 Michael Korovine $6,328
    4 Michael Aflalo $5,132
    5 Levon Dedeyan $5,190
    6 Steve Ulloa-Torres $2,505
    7 Kinh Lieu $1,885
    8 Donald Rathwell $1,420
    9 Patrick Mailloux $1,070
    10 Miles Cunningham $805
    11 Steve Berti $805
    12 Stephan Gauzer $745
    13 Marc-Andre Racine $745
    14 Jason Gracie $690
    15 Tina Sigalos $690
    16 Raphael Ohayon $328

    Last Minute MVP Update!

In the past 24 hours three events were concluded in the Playground Poker Fall Classic – the WPT Montreal (Event 9), the Fall Classic High Roller (Event 11), and Event 12 ($300 + $30 Freezeout) so there have been considerable changes to the standings for the top 50 in the race for the Fall Classic MVP Belt!

The changes, however, have not been at the very top of the standings. Gary Lucci is still in the lead followed by 4 others in striking distance of the lead. The most significant change has been that both Alain and Luigi have gone past Ricky Tang in the standings into 4th and 5th position.

With one event left to play – Event 13, which is starting in just minutes – there’s a good chance yet for some last minute fireworks!

    The Champion!

After a gruelling spell of heads up play that saw several back-and-forth swings of the chip lead, Derrick Rosenbarger has emerged victorious in the 2013 WPT Montreal! For the victory he takes home $517,049 in cash, a seat in the WPT World Championship later this year, he gets his name on the WPT Cup – and he wins Playground Poker’s WPT Champion’s Belt!

In second place tonight was Mukul Pahuja, who tilted the affair in his direction a few times during the night but couldn’t quite get the job finished, although not because of a lack of effort or poker talent.

    Congratulations to both!

    The Champion: Derrick Rosenbarger, $517,049

    2nd place: Mukul Pahuja, $362,430

  • While the final table of the High Roller was finishing up and the Televised final table of the WPT Montreal was in full swing, Event 12 of the Playground Poker Fall Classic got started. It’s a $300 + $30 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout tournament that attracted 148 players.

The tournament is currently in level 7 and 123 of those players are still alive.
