Event 5 Champion: Luigi Fantigrossi

After an intense heads-up match between Gary Lucci and Luigi Fantigrossi, where there were several turns in the chip lead, it was finally Luigi that came out the winner.

On the last hand, Luigi put in a small raise from the small blind, and snap called Gary when he went all-in from the big blind. Gary knew he was in trouble when he heard the call, and needed some help if he was to crack Luigi’s Ace of Spades Ace of Hearts with his King of Spades 3 of Clubs. The board showed Queen of Hearts 2 of Spades 7 of Clubs Jack of Diamonds 2 of Clubs, and Luigi won the pot, the first prize money and the Fall Classic Playground Poker Bracelet!

Congratulations Luigi!

3rd place: Andrew Graham

With three players left in the tournament, Andrew raised all-in from his small blind with around 5 big blinds, and was called by Luigi from the big blind.

Andrew Graham turned over 5 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds, and was far behind Luigi’s Queen of Spades 7 of Spades. The board showed 4 of Spades 2 of Spades 3 of Diamonds, and the Ace of Spades on the turn gave Andrew the straight, but Luigi the flush.

3rd place: Andrew Graham, $8,690

4th Place: Hichem Rais

After Gary Lucci completed from the small blind, Hichem went all-in as his big blind option, holding a stack of under 5 big blinds. Gary tanked for a minute before making the call with King of Hearts Jack of Spades, and was far ahead of Hichem’s 8 of Clubs 3 of Clubs. The board showed Ace of Diamonds 9 of Hearts Ace of Spades 7 of Hearts 7 of Clubs, and Gary won the pot, sending Hichem home with a nice $6,505.

5th Place: Sonja Smirnov

Sonja Smirnov went all-in from the high-jack with her remaining few big blinds, and Gary Lucci isolated from the button.

Sonja: Ace of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds

Gary: Ace of Hearts King of Diamonds

The board came out Jack of Clubs Jack of Diamonds 9 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 4 of Spades, ending Sonja’s deep run.

  • Our own Playground Poker Player’s Club member Jean-Philippe Piquette was just eliminated in 6th place. Holding a stack of 450K, JPP moved all-in from the cut-off in an unopened pot. Andrew Graham, sitting in the big blind with a healthy stack, made the call and turned over Ace of Spades 8 of Hearts. JPP showed King of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds for two live cards, and they were off to the races. There was some hope with the flop of 10 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds Jack of Hearts, but the turn and river of 3 of Clubs and 8 of Clubs didn’t help, and sent Jean-Philippe home with a $3,655 payday.

Tournament is now hand-for-hand, as we are on the final table bubble.

We just lost Johnathan Barrette, who pushed all-in with his last few big blinds from under the gun with Ace of Clubs 3 of Hearts. It folded around to Luigi, who, with a stack of over 1.5M, made the call for an extra 90K or so with 7 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs, after already having 40K in for his big blind. The board ran out 4 of Spades King of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 7 of Hearts, and Johnathan got rivered to finish in 9th place.
