Event 7 Champion: Benoit Pesant

Event 7 has come to a close after 3 days of gruelling action, and Benoit Pesant has emerged as our tournament champion! He will collect an nice $67,335 for his win, and is now a proud owner of a Playground Poker Fall Classic bracelet!

One the final hand, Benoit min-raised from the button to 120K, and Ricky Tang went all-in for 1.8M. Benoit took a minute to think about the situation, and ended up calling. He turned over Ace of Clubs Jack of Spades, and it was a race with Ricky’s 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs. The board was Queen of Spades Queen of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 5 of Clubs Ace of Hearts, and that infamous ace on the river gave Benoit the win!

Congratulations on your solid performance in this event!

  • The action was pretty calm all the way down to the river on a 7 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs Queen of Clubs 3 of Spades 4 of Diamonds board, but river betting was extremely quick and cost Ricky most of his stack. Ricky (first to act) bet 350K and Benoit insta-shoved his shorter (but still healthy) stack. Ricky didn’t think twice before calling and tabling 7 of Spades 2 of Spades for flopped trip 7s… unfortunately for him, Benoit tabled his 6 of Clubs 5 of Clubs for a runner-runner straight to the 7.

Ricky went from chip leader down to just about 1.6M chips, and Benoit is the massive chip leader.

  • With the eliminations of Jean-Pierre Hetu and Michael Neuber after a long period of 4-handed play, the tournament has reached the final showdown between two players playing heads up poker.

The two players remaining are Ricky Tang (4M chips) and Benoit Pesant (3.9M chips) and they are playing for $67,335 for 1st place and $47,205 for 2nd place.

Good luck to both of the players remaining!

  • Michael Neuber, who came in as one of the shorter stacks on the final table of this Event 7, seemed to be impossible to eliminate. At numerous occasion he found himself all-in, but always came out a winner in the hand. That is until he ran into a big hand with Benoit Pesant, and failed to scoop the chips.

Michael raised from the button to 105K, and was called by Benoit from the big blind. On a flop of 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades 8 of Spades, Benoit check-called Michael’s 135K bet. The turn showed a 5 of Diamonds, and Benoit once again checked to Michael, who this time around decided to pull the ultimate trigger and went all-in for just over 800K. Benoit didn’t take too long to make the call, and it turned out to be a good call, as his 7 of Clubs 7 of Spades were miles ahead of Michael’s 4 of Diamonds 4 of Spades with only one card to come. The river 10 of Hearts was a brick, and Michael was eliminated in the hand, taking home $30,365.

The blinds increased the following hand.

  • Our chip leader at the start of the day has just been eliminated in 4th place. Holding a stack of roughly 750K, Jean Pierre limped from the small blind, and Ricky Tang shoved all-in from the big blind. Without any hesitation, Jean Pierre made the quick call, and turned over King of Diamonds King of Spades. He was up against Ricky’s Ace of Hearts 10 of Clubs, and it seemed like an ideal spot for him to double his stack up and bring him right back into the game. Unfortunately for him, the board of 9 of Diamonds Jack of Spades 7 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 3 of Spades gave Ricky the straight, eliminating Jean Pierre in 4th place for $22,475.

Benoit re-raised all-in from the big blind, forcing Jean Pierre out of the hand.

Asm showed down 8 of Spades 8 of Diamonds, and was far behind the Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts of Benoit. The board ran Ace of Hearts 6 of Spades 7 of Spades Ace of Diamonds 2 of Clubs, sending Asm to the rail with a $16,870 payday.

  • Joe Pawlik was just eliminated in 7th place, collecting $11,205 for his final table finish. We missed the exact action, but from what was described to us, Joe Pawlik got all his chips in the middle on a K 10 8 flop after having raised preflop. Unfortunately his AK, for top pair top kicker, ran into Benoit Pesant’s pocket 10s, and the set of tens was good to the river.

    7th place: Joe Pawlik, $11,205
