Movember? Movember!

In the past few years, Movember has become a very popular way of doing something in public to promote Men’s health. As we circulate among the tournament players, we’ve seen some amazing examples of the mustachio arts. We can’t be sure if these guys are actually raising money for the cause or just joining in the facial hair trend for fun – but either way, there’s some impressive growth out there.

We’ll be building on this gallery as the Fall Classic progresses…

Level 9 – Notable Stacks

  • Level: 9
  • Small Blind: 400
  • Big Blind: 800
  • Ante: 100
  • Chip Average: 35K
  • Remaining: 297
  • Entries: 520

  • We have just returned to action after the second, and last, break of the night. The day will come to an end in just over 2 hours, but there is still lots of action to take place. With the tournament average hovering around 35K, we have spotted a few players with stacks reaching up to 140K. Here are some notable stacks:

    • 140K – Christos Zavouris
    • 125K – Philippe Mercier
    • 115K – Andre Parent
    • 100K – Bryan Bouchard
    • 100K – Matthew Hendler
    • 95K – Marouane Tijani
    • 95K – Brian Morgan

    Update Level 8

  • Level: 8
  • Small Blind: 300
  • Big Blind: 600
  • Ante: 75
  • Chip Average: 30.1K
  • Remaining: 346
  • Entries: 520

  • Level 8 has just begun, and we still have 346 players in contention. The final number of entries for the day was 520, so combining that with the previous 2 days, we have a total of 1400 players for Event 1!

    Huge hand

  • Level: 5
  • Small Blind: 200
  • Big Blind: 400
  • Ante: 50
  • Chip Average: 24.8K
  • Remaining: 420
  • Entries: 520

  • It’s still only in level 5 but there are big enough stacks for some huge pots to develop. We came across a huge hand on the river on Table 47, where the player in Seat 10 had shoved and his opponent in Seat 1 was deeply in the tank.

The board read 6 of Spades 7 of Spades Jack of Hearts 4 of Diamonds 9 of Spades and there was about 30K in the pot. The shove was for about 15K but he covered Nick in Seat 1. After quite a while in the tank Nick called time on himself and after about 35 more seconds he folded Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds – top set – face up. The player in seat 10 had agreed to show his hand if he got the fold – and flipped over Ace of Hearts 6 of Clubs for a pretty audacious bluff.

    A Few More Photos

  • The players are back from their first break, and have just begun level 5. All the alternates have been accommodated, and it looks like we have 522 total entries for the day. The official final number will be up shortly.

For now, here are some more photos taken during level 4:

    Break time!

The players have reached the first break – all 429 of them who are still alive in the tournament. We’ll be back once the break is over with final registration numbers.

  • The tournament has just passed into level 3 and tournament staff are working hard to get alternates in and open additional tables to meet the huge demand tonight. So far 502 players have taken their seats – way over the initial capacity – with more still to come.

Meanwhile, the players from tonight’s Premier League continue – here are some shots Piotr took a little earlier.

    And they’re off!

  • Level: 1
  • Small Blind: 50
  • Big Blind: 100
  • Ante: 0
  • Chip Average: 20K
  • Remaining: 405
  • Entries: 405

  • The floor staff have just made the traditional “shuffle up and deal” announcement and just like that Day 1c of Event 1 of the Playground Poker Fall Classic is underway. Tonight is the last of the three starting days for this $135 + $15 event and there are already 405 players seated at the tables with alternates being seated until the end of the first break.

Good luck to everyone playing tonight!
