Two more players have been eliminated from Event 2 and we’re just two away from a final table (and the end of play today).
Here’s how the last 6 eliminations leading up to the final table happened.
After a tough few orbits, where Miguel saw his 2.5M chip stack dwindle down to just under 600K, he went all-in when it was folded around to his button. Christopher Rassi, sitting in the big blind with a healthy 2M+ stack, isolated by raising Miguel’s all-in. Once heads-up, Miguel turned over , and was going to need some help from the poker gods if he was going to crack Chris’ . Unfortunately for him, the board came , and he bubbled the final table.
After losing just under 1.2M to Christopher Shakell a few hands earlier, where Andrew’s fell second best to Chris’ on a board, Andrew got his remaining 300K in with versus the of, once again, Christopher. The board held in favor of Christopher’s hand, and Andrew got eliminated in 12th.
Troy Hamilton went all-in from the button in an unopened pot, and Dany, who was sitting in the small blind, made the quick call. He was covered by Troy, but had the better hand. His was far ahead of Troy’s , but when the flop came , Dany needed some help. The turn and river showed and , thus eliminating Dany in 13th place.
After surviving a few orbits with a short stack, Matthew finally got his last 3 big blinds from the high-jack position in an unopened pot, and got called by both blinds. The hand was checked down to the end, and Miguel tabled for two-pair on a board, and the two other players mucked, busting Matthew on the hand.
Alex fell shortstack after getting crippled by Alexandros Fixmer, who held a pair of queens versus Fiorani’s A7. He later got his last few chips in with in a four way pot, but was crushed by Evgeni’s , who isolated on a flop. The turn was the , which was the only thing that could potentially have helped Alex, but the river sent him home.
With around 7 big blinds left, Tina took advantage of an unopened pot to go all-in from the high-jack position with 395K. Miguel, sitting in the cut-off with roughly 1.7M, made the call, and the other players folded behind.
Tina turned over , and found herself behind Miguel’s . The board was no help to her, reading , and Tina’s deep run came to an end.
Event 2 is playing down to 10 players today, and they’re getting down to brass tacks pretty quickly now as the event has moved to two tables – and once there, there were two eliminations almost immediately.
Chips are flying around with 25 players remaining in Event 2.
A hand that was just played on Table 38 that propelled the winner to among the overall chip leaders in the tournament.
Matthew Brunskole limped UTG and Andrew Graham raised to 80K two seats to his left. Matthew thought for a moment before calling the 80K. The flop fell and both players quickly checked. The turn came and Matthew checked once again. This time Andrew put out a small bet of 75K, and Matthew called. The river was the and Matthew checked for a third time. Andrew thought for a moment – but then made it clear he wasn’t thinking about checking behind, he was thinking how much to bet for value. He slid out 175K and Matthew threw in a 5K chip to call. Andrew showed his for the turned low part of the straight. Matthew mucked and Andrew added 515K to his pre-hand stack.
After doing some rough chip counts during the break, we found 5 players who are over the 1 million chip mark.
The players are going on a 15 minute break here on Day 2 of Event 2. We are down to 28 players, and chips are flying left and right. We will be back shortly with some chip counts. In the mean time, here are some photos from just before the break.
Players have just returned from their second break of the day and during the pause we were counting stacks and have found the chip leaders at this point in the tournament.
During hand-for-hand play, there were two simultaneous eliminations, and therefore our two ‘bubble boys’, Cedrick Quenneville-Renaud and Kevin Blais, will actually end up splitting 81st place, awarding them $200 each.
We caught the action of one of the eliminations, as Cedrick went all-in for 56K from the button in an unopened pot, and Vasilios tank-called from the big blind, holding a stack of only 66K himself.
Vasilios:
Cedrick:
The board ran out , and Vasilios won the pot and nearly doubled up.
Congratulations to all that are in the money!
