Welcome to Event 12!

Just as Monday night is 6-Max night, Tuesday night is Omaha night here at Playground Poker Club. On the agenda tonight is a Pot Limit Omaha 3 Lives tournament.

A 3 Lives tournament is a freezeout, except that each player is given 3 “life” chips which represent 10,000 chips each. During the first four levels, players can use these life chips as they wish – they can redeem all three at once to start with 30,000, or they can redeem one for 10,000 and use the other two as “virtual” rebuy chips. At the end of level 4, all remaining “life chips” are redeemed and the tournament continues with all of the chips on the tables.

The tournament is just underway and the tournament capacity is 120 plus alternates, so there’s plenty of time to jump in the action!

Gavin Smith eliminated

One of the most notable players still in the event, Players Club member Gavin Smith was eliminated after he shoved King of Hearts 5 of Spades into Ace of Spades Queen of Spades which ended up making the nut flush.

Brian Coen was eliminated a few hands later by Dawn Mootrey, so the tournament is just one more elimination away from the close of Day 3.

Huge hand!

There was a huge hand on Table 34 a few minutes ago. Terrance Eishens open raised from the button to 70K and was 3-bet by Francesco Buffone in the SB to 235K, who in turn was 4-bet by Eric Despres in the BB who bumped it to 500K.

Terrance didn’t think long before folding, and Francesco didn’t think much longer before shoving – which was met by a snap call from Eric.

Francesco turned over Ace of Hearts 10 of Diamonds while Eric flipped Ace of Diamonds Ace of Clubs. The board ran out Jack of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds Queen of Spades giving Francesco a gunshot. The turn came 5 of Spades and the river was another blank, 6 of Spades. Eric more than doubled to 3.5M chips and now has a healthy 100BB stack as Day 3 winds to a close.

Down to 4 tables

Two more players have busted since the break and the tournament is down to 4 tables.

Another break

There is another break as tournament staff colours up and races off the yellow 1K chips. After the break, blinds will be 15K/30K/a5K. During the last level the number of players still in the action dropped from 47 to 38.

Here are a few photos from the last level:

A tale of two locals

Two Playground regular players got involved in big hands just now but with very different results.

First, Josh Kimmel open-shoved his small-blind with about 330K (~13BB) and the big blind (Jonathan Bussieres) called. Josh turned over Queen of Spades 10 of Hearts while Jonathan held King of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds. The board ran out 3 of Clubs 3 of Hearts 9 of Spades 6 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds and Jonathan’s King high took the pot.

Just a minute or so later, Bill Kontaratos was in the tank for a short while facing a shove to his BB. Eventually he called and flipped over 5 of Clubs 5 of Hearts while his opponent, Barron Ha, had shoved with 6 of Clubs 4 of Clubs. The board ran out 2 of Spades King of Clubs 3 of Diamonds 3 of Spades Ace of Clubs and Bill’s pocket pair held up.

  • 39. Baron Ha, $4,886
  • 40. Josh Kimmel, $4,886
