    Setna bags the lead

    2018/05/01 - 21:47 by Playground Poker

The last Day 1 of the Turbo has come to an end, and players just bagged their chips for Day 2. A total of 140 players have made it through Day 1, 55 on Day 1A and 85 on Day 1B, and will play tomorrow until one player is crowned champion. Today, 462 entries joined the tourney, including 114 re-entries for a total of 849 for the 2 starting flights combined.

Just like every turbo tournament, play was very aggressive, allowing players to build some solid stacks right from the beginning. There was a race for the lead throughout the entire tournament between Brian Morgan, Jimmy Setna and Andrew Neeme, but at the end of level 17, Setna was the one who bagged the most chips, taking 18,425,000 to Day 2.

A complete list of players and chip counts will be posted shortly here in the results section.

Day 2 will start tomorrow at noon, when all of our qualifiers merge and battle it out until the end.

    See you there!

    Senthuran Vijayaratnam

In this hand, Gabriel Attiave opened to 260K. Jimmy Setna 3-bet to 660K, which were called by Senthuran Vijayaratnam from the blinds. Gabriel called. The flop was checked by all 3 players, but Senthuran threw in 650K on the turn, which only Gabriel called.

Board: 6 of Clubs King of Clubs Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs Ace of Hearts

On the river, Senthuran fired all-in for about 4.5M. As Gabriel folded, he flashed the 10 of Clubs. Senthuran replied by tabling 4 of Spades 4 of Clubs!!

On another table, Jordan Saccucci check raised Antti Halme all-in on a 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 4 of Hearts flop for 4.5M chips. Antti called, and the hands were tabled:

Antti: Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs
Jordan: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Spades

Unlike Senthuran, Jordan was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Run out: Ace of Hearts 4 of Diamonds!! Jordan ran away with the 10-million jar.

    Neeme climbs up the leaderboard

    • Level: 16
    • Small Blind: 60K
    • Big Blind: 120K
    • Button Ante: 120K
    • Chip Average: 4.9M

Andrew Neeme had the 3rd biggest stack at the last break. He might have climbed to second place with that big pot he just won. The hand started when Neeme opened pre flop at 225k, Ramesh Arya called but Diana Shamshoum raised to 700K. Arya folded and Neeme called.

Flop: 5 of Diamonds 10 of Spades King of Hearts

Neeme checked the flop, letting Diana bet 1M, and calls.

    Turn: Jack of Hearts

Same pattern, Neeme check, Shamshoum bets 1M, but this time Neeme pushes all-in and Shamshoum calls.

Shamshoum shows top pair, top kicker: Ace of Spades King of Spades. Neeme opens 5 of Spades 5 of Clubs. He had flopped a set.

The river came a 3 of Diamonds. Neeme scooped the pot and is now sitting on over 16M in chips.

Jimmy Setna did an amazing job in the last level. Not only did he pass Brian Morgan and took the driver’s seat for himself, but doing so, he considerably softened the field by eliminating Ari Engel and claiming his 5.8M stack.

    Arsenault doubles up

    • Level: 14
    • Small Blind: 40K
    • Big Blind: 80K
    • Button Ante: 80K
    • Chip Average: 3.9M
    • Remaining: 119
    • Entries: 462

    2018/05/01 - 19:34 by Playground Poker

Alex Arsenault, moments before the break, doubled his 1,095,000 on Richard Berenbaum in a pre-flop showdown:

Arsenault: 7 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds
Berenbaum: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds

Board: 8 of Hearts 6 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 4 of Spades

It was a great flop for 7s, as the ten was no longer an out for Berenbaum. Players will now take the last break of the day.

    Shamshoum knows when to fold

    • Level: 13
    • Small Blind: 35K
    • Big Blind: 70K
    • Button Ante: 70K
    • Chip Average: 3.2
    • Remaining: 144
    • Entries: 462

Diana Shamshoum just saved her tournament life by folding at the right moment. The hand started five-way with Tam Ho’s raise to 160K. Shamshoum, Tomas Fara and Alex Arsenault called, but J.S. re-raised to 450K. Only Ho and Shamshoum called.

Flop: 7 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts Jack of Clubs

J.S is first to act and decides to go big or go home by pushing all his chips in the middle. Ho folds and Diana takes a minute before folding.

J.S shows Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds, and Shamshoum is happy (and proud) to see that she made such a good fold.
