$550 Deepstack Champion: George Caragiorgas

$550 Deepstack Champion: George Caragiorgas

The $500 + $50 Deepstack Re-entry saw a total of 213 entries over 2 starting flights, of which 24 players were awarded a cash prize. 57 players made it through to Day 2, and once the scheduled 10 levels were played out, only 7 remained in contention of taking home the $25,000 top prize as they bagged for Day 3.

George Caragiorgas bagged a little more than average stack after Day 1, and had a very solid Day 2 where he steadily increased his stack throughout the night. He finished Day 2 as the massive chip leader, and never really looked back after that.

Once Day 3 got underway, he continued his steady rise as play got more and more shorthanded. Once Alex Sauriol was eliminated in 4th place, the final 3 players decided to look at the ICM numbers. They all agreed with the offer, and decided to leave an extra $1,500 for the eventual tournament champion so they can play down to a winner. George locked in $20,705 in the deal, while Peter Johnson Jr. took $16,000, and Alexandre Lachapelle Durand took $15,590.

A few orbits following the deal, George eliminated Peter to go heads-up with Alexandre. He began with a 4-to-1 chip advantage, and after only a few hands he called the all-in of Alexandre with King of Clubs Queen of Diamonds. Alexandre tabled Ace of Clubs 9 of Clubs, but finished second best as the board ran 6 of Hearts King of Hearts 9 of Hearts Queen of Hearts 4 of Clubs, and with that pot George became our $500 + $50 Deepstack champion!

Congratulations!

3rd place: Peter Johnson Jr.

Peter Johnson Jr. was eliminated not long after the 3-way deal was concluded. He opened his button to 100K, and moved all-in for around 800K after George Caragiorgas 3bet to 325K from the small blind.

Peter: Ace of Clubs King of Spades
George: Ace of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds

Board: 4 of Spades 5 of Hearts 7 of Spades 10 of Spades Jack of Clubs

Peter locked in $16,000 in the deal, which is a huge return on investment as he qualified for this tournament in an online satellite for only $30. Play is now heads-up between George and Alexandre Lachapelle Durand.

4th place: Alex Sauriol

Alex Sauriol was down to 255K when he moved in from under the gun. Action folded around to chip leader George Caragiorgas, who elected to call for only 5bb more.

Alex: Ace of Spades King of Spades
George: 10 of Hearts 8 of Hearts

George flopped a flush draw and added a gutshot on the turn, but it was finally a small pair on the river that gave him the win, as the board ran 4 of Clubs 2 of Hearts 7 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds.

5th place: Clayton

Clayton was playing the short stack for the last few orbits, and was keeping himself in the game by stealing blinds here and there. He eventually dropped to just 6bb, and seated in the big blind he was faced with an open from George Caragiorgas. With King of Spades 6 of Hearts, he elected to move in and play the hand heads-up. His cards were live, as George tabled Ace of Spades 4 of Spades, however he was drawing fairly slim as George smashed the flop and improved to a flush on the 5 of Spades 4 of Diamonds Jack of Spades 5 of Clubs 3 of Spades board.

6th place: Shaan Siddiqui

We missed the exact action, but some fireworks occurred between Shaan Siddiqui (utg) and Alexandre Lachapelle Durand (big blind) on a 6 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts flop, and both players ended up with all their chips in the middle.

Shaan tabled 5 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds for a pair and diamond flush draw, while Alexandre showed down 10 of Spades 7 of Spades for top pair. The turn brought the 2 of Clubs, and river 10 of Clubs, and once the counts were done, Shaan was covered by his opponent by a hair, sending him to the rail in 6th place.

Alexandre now holds a second place stack worth almost 1.5 million, while George Caragiorgas still tops the field with his 2.65 million chip stack.

7th place: Mike Fraser

Mike Fraser came into Day 3 as the shortest stack, however he found a quick double-up in the first moments of the night with Ace of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds versus the Queen of Hearts 10 of Spades of Shaan Siddiqui. Not even three hands later he fell down below his Day 3 starting stack as he doubled table opponent Alexandre Lachapelle Durand with 10 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs < Ace of Hearts 7 of Spades. He folded for two full orbits before being left with two antes, where he won a pot worth 2bb. Still very short-stacked, he had no choice but to move all-in once in the big blind position, where he lost his last chips to Clayton.

7th place: Mike Fraser – $4,150.00
