We are now halfway through the day, and 160 entries have taken a seat so far. Of course, the counter remains open all day, and players are still coming in as well as reloading.

Ramon Wicki has made a flashing entry into the leaderboard, having more than doubled his chips since the last break. His stack is just shy of 4 million chips, and is followed by Alex Guerrera’s, valued at 3,745,000.

We put together a middle-of-the-day top ten table:

The Flip ‘n Go is BACK!

    2018/04/25 - 16:06 by

Throughout Canada and the US, there are probably thousands of local independent poker clubs that host fun, small-stakes poker games and tournaments. Occasionally they’ll get more ambitious and organize leagues over multiple weeks or months to send players to a place like Playground Poker Club for a series like MILLIONS North America. These small clubs and groups often go unnoticed in the industry, but in reality, it’s they who first kindle many players’ passion for the game!

We just had an amazing time with just such a group from Vancouver. They came from Rev’s Poker Club, but their main man in town, Rich Gablehouse, had a problem. They had run a league for many weeks, but instead of sending a couple of players here to Playground with a full Main Event buy-in, they chose to make it more social and send 8 people with just enough for one Step 1 satellite and one Step 2 satellite for each player. When the schedule changed and today’s Step 1 was replaced with a Step 2… they turned to us for advice.

What to do… what to do…

How about a Flip ‘n Go!

They were thrilled – they had already brought the Flip ‘n Go format home with them from a previous visit. Before too long, all 8 players were assembled around Table 25 to run 2 Flip ‘n Gos for 1 $580 Step 2 satellite seat each!

We’re happy to announce – the Flip ‘n go is BACK! Any time you’re at Playground during the Main Event, contact the Brush desk to get on the list! We’re running Flips for Step 2 satellites – but also for MILLIONS Main Event seats!

Here are some photos of the shenanigans earlier this afternon:

For the record, the first of the two Flip ‘n Gos was won by a full house while the 2nd was won by trip 4s!

    Here’s the video:

    Greenwood finds value

    • Level: 4
    • Small Blind: 7K
    • Big Blind: 14K
    • Button Ante: 14K
    • Chip Average: 1.27M
    • Remaining: 122
    • Entries: 155

    2018/04/25 - 16:02 by Jôle Simard

Lucas Greenwood check raised Michael Mellor from 50K to 155K on the flop. Mellor called. Both players checked the turn, and Greenwood bet 300K on the river.

He did get a call, and when he showed King of Spades King of Hearts, Mellor mucked, and the dealer pushed the pot.

Board: 10 of Spades 6 of Spades 5 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds

Looking at Greenwood’s check on the turn, one might wonder what he was trying to do. Of course, he could have been pot controlling, but this type of turn check out of position is a great tool to create some river value. In any case, good hand and good pot!

    Khan can’t get passed Mleckaite

    • Level: 4
    • Small Blind: 7K
    • Big Blind: 14K
    • Button Ante: 14K
    • Chip Average: 1.23M
    • Remaining: 124
    • Entries: 153

    2018/04/25 - 15:44 by Jôle Simard

With about 900K in the pot, Ernesta Mleckaite was facing a 195K bet on the river. Faisal Khan did everything he could to scream out value bet, but a lady with a pair of ladies is a set! She correctly made the call.

Khan: Ace of Diamonds 8 of Hearts
Mleckaite: Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs

Board: King of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 5 of Hearts

We missed how the hand developed, but Khan’s flopped nut flush draw, which got a few extra outs on the turn, was exactly what Mleckaite wanted to see when she made the river call.

    Koopman keeps climbing

    • Level: 3
    • Small Blind: 6K
    • Big Blind: 12K
    • Button Ante: 12K
    • Chip Average: 1.2M
    • Remaining: 122
    • Entries: 147

    2018/04/25 - 15:16 by Jôle Simard

Frank Koopman was part of the first break leaderboard and was seen running it up some more after finding value with his aces. Christopher Back moved in for 625K, facing two opponents with 100K each invested in the pot. Koopman brought him the bad news.

Back: Ace of Clubs King of Hearts
Koopman: Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds

Board: 10 of Spades Jack of Spades 10 of Clubs 8 of Hearts 9 of Clubs

    Heavy pre-flop action

    • Level: 3
    • Small Blind: 6K
    • Big Blind: 12K
    • Button Ante: 12K
    • Chip Average: 1.18M
    • Remaining: 120
    • Entries: 141

    2018/04/25 - 15:00 by Jôle Simard

Three players had a pre-flop rumble on table 63. Igor Tregoubov had put out 125K, which was most likely a 3-bet. Thomas Robert Zanot went all-in for 449K, and Eric Anton Wigg did the same with his 782K stack.

Tregoubov was in the tank for some time. He was holding a premium hand but was facing very heavy action, and on his second bullet. He finally decided to jump in and let the dealer do his thing.

Zanot: Ace of Spades King of Hearts
Wigg: Jack of Hearts Jack of Diamonds
Tregoubov: Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts

Board: 2 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 5 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 4 of Spades

When the hole cards were tabled, both Tregoubov and Zanot were happy, having plenty of equity for their investment. Tregoubov was in great shape, having great side pot action with his over pair against Wigg. He scooped everything, and joined the leaders mid-way into level 3.
