The river taketh and the river giveth away

    • Level: 2
    • Small Blind: 5K
    • Big Blind: 10K
    • Button Ante: 10K
    • Chip Average: 1.12M
    • Remaining: 118

Michael Mellor got involved in a pot where he raised Deborah Vanneste’s 185K bet to 400K on the turn on a paired board. Vanneste called and checked the river, which was checked back by Mellor.

Board: 7 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 9 of Spades 6 of Spades 3 of Spades

Vanneste: Ace of Spades 7 of Spades

Mellor’s river check worked really well for him, as Vanneste had completed a flush. We did not get to see Mellor’s hand. Shortly after, he was all-in against Kevin Eyster with aces, at risk and behind, but the river works in mysterious ways.

Mellor: Ace of Spades Ace of Clubs
Eyster: King of Spades Queen of Hearts

Board: 8 of Clubs 9 of Clubs Queen of Spades Queen of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds

Mellor cheered up, and declared that he deserved that one.

    Bujold resists the Open champ

    • Big Blind: 10K

Michel Bujold doubled up on Karim-Olivier Kamal, who took down the Open last night and the $210,000 first prize, after a solid performance on an unbelievably stacked final table. Needless to say, he is feeling pretty good in the Main Event today, and took this loss with a smile.

He was seen trying to push Michel Bujold off a 500K pot on the river. Bujold’s remaining 350K were finally invested, and the showdown revealed a great call!

Kamal: Queen of Clubs Jack of Hearts
Bujold: 7 of Spades 7 of Diamonds

Board: 2 of Spades 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts 3 of Clubs

    Action on Twitter

    2018/04/25 - 13:03 by

There’s always a ton of action on Twitter before, during, and after major poker events and the MILLIONS Main Event is no exception. Here is just a small sampling:

Flying to Montreal in a few hours for @partypokerlive at @PlaygroundPoker and looking for CAD or party money. I can send boa, zelle, acr, btc or cash in Vegas. Hit me up

    — Tim Reilly (@TimReillyPoker) April 25, 2018

Firing up day 1 of #partypokerLIVE main event at the nicest tournament venue in North America, @PlaygroundPoker

End of Day reports are also popular:

Ran super pure and went from 1M to 8 Million in Day 1A at @PlaygroundPoker; won three days to enjoy Montréal!

    — TonyDunstTV (@tonydunsttv) April 25, 2018

6Million in the bag headed to day 2a on Saturday. Days off now, and maybe back in the booth at some point @partypokerlive @playgroundpoker

The Main Event is of course a re-entry event, and it is not uncommon to see big guns fire off their barrel to try to run up the board early. Mike Leah and Darryll Fish, two players with impressive resumes – over 10M in earnings by the two of them – just bumped into each other.

When we got to the table, the turn was out and a few 100K chips were in the pot. Leah bet 150K, and Fish raised him all-in rather quickly, for an effective 800K. Leah didn’t think for too long, and called him off with ace high!

Leah: Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds
Fish: Queen of Hearts Queen of Diamonds

Board: 4 of Clubs 7 of Clubs 8 of Spades 10 of Hearts 8 of Hearts

Fish, fresh off a WPT win in January, is already working with a double stack, while Super High Roller final tableist Chance Kornuth was shoulder to shoulder with Darren Elias, but lost his first bullet, and he is now doing his thing on a new table with fresh chips.
