    Kostoulas bags heavy

    2018/04/26 - 21:15 by Jôle Simard

A huge Thursday was just concluded at Playground Poker Club, as the field in Day 1C was the biggest so far. This being said, it is believed that tomorrow’s flights will be even bigger.

Of course, the closer we get to the first Day 2, the more pros we see in the stream of players coming into the club. Today, we welcomed Scott Blumstein, the current world champion. We also had the pleasure to see our friend Antonio Esfandiari drop by. He casually and unsurprisingly build his stack to 4.6M, all the while doing his usual stretching and getting massage after massage.

Of all the big stacks that were sent to Day 2, Christopher Kostoulas was the heaviest. He finished the day with 6,450,000 chips, good for 4th place overall so far. You can consult the full list of Day 2 qualifiers and their counts here, in the results section of the event.

On tap tomorrow, Main Event Day 1D and at night, the turbo flight, Day 1E. We will see you there!

Late triple up for Van Hoa Le

As the clock winds down on Day 2B, Van Hoa Le just got a new lease on his tournament life thanks to a triple up in a dramatic three-way all in.

With the blinds at 15K/30K, following an opening raise to 75K, Derek Walters found a good spot to try to double up his short stack and moved all-in. Immediately to his left, Van Hoa Le, who was only playing 400K at the time, decided to isolate and moved his stack in. The action folded around to Brian Piccioli, in the big blind with enough chips to cover both opponents, joined them and moved all-in. This action put the initial raiser, Sean Ruane, in a pretty tough spot, to say the least. Ruane spent a while in the tank before finally deciding to wait for a better situation and hands were tabled.

Derek Wolters, confident he had the best hand, was the first to turn over his cards, revealing Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds. Le calmly tabled his 8 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs and Piccioli showed his 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds. The flop, 8 of Spades Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds, put Le in the lead and his sigh of relief was heard around the table. The turn, 5 of Hearts, and river, 7 of Diamonds, had no impact on the results of the flop, and Le got to stacking his new chips.

Francis Hamel was doing quite well, working with an average stack and way ahead in a pot against Mikko Turtiainen. However, Mikko was given very good odds to peek at the river. He was min check raised on the turn, and completed the bet.

When the river appeared, Francis continued with a 400K bet, but by that time, Mikko’s hand had graduated. His all-in was called, forming a pot of over 4 million chips.

Francis: King of Hearts 4 of Hearts
Mikko: Ace of Hearts Jack of Spades

Board: King of Spades 10 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 7 of Hearts 3 of Hearts

We can feel the end of Day 1C approaching – smaller stacks are making moves hoping to double up their stack and bag a decent amount into Day 2. All-in pre-flop situations are all over the place, and Ryan Godson was able to benefit from it and triple up on Ludovic Geilich and Amir Babakhani. The three of them were all-in before the flop, but Godson hit a straight on the river. Geilich had more than him but he had enough to cover Babakhani’s stack and end his journey.

Godson: Ace of Hearts 4 of Hearts

Babakhani: 3 of Diamonds 3 of Spades

Geilich: Ace of Clubs Queen of Spades

Board: King of Hearts 7 of Hearts 3 of Clubs 5 of Spades 2 of Diamonds

When we got to the table, Alexander Ziskin had just raised Wayne Harmon’s 325K bet to 700K. Harmon was in the tank for a while, and finally announced all-in, for a little more than a million on top. Ziskin had a good over pair, but the board presented many dangers.

    Nevertheless, he made the call:

Ziskin: King of Spades King of Hearts
Harmon: Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds

Board: 6 of Clubs 8 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs 10 of Diamonds

The river failed to provide one of Harmon’s 12 12 outs, and about 4.2M were pushed to Alexander Ziskin. He now enjoys a stack of two and a half times the average.
