Even though we’re still in the first three levels of play, we can really see the difference in the way participants are playing. Since tonight is a turbo, there is much more action in the early stages. We’ve already seen a few all-ins and play is very aggressive.

Stewart Chantler was able to double his stack in a hand against Ivan Mamuzic. Bets weren’t that big before the flop but that didn’t last too long.

Board: Queen of Clubs 5 of Hearts :10h

Mamuzic made a 400K bet, which was huge considering the size of the pot. Chantler seized the opportunity as he flopped a set and pushed all-in with a little more than 800K. Mamuzic had to make the call with his King of Spades King of Diamonds, but unfortunately he was already behind and the following two streets didn’t help him much.

Chantler: 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs

    Turn: 7 of Hearts

    River : 2 of Spades

Meanwhile on another table, a similar situation happened between Charles Furey and Alex Barbosa. Furey committed his entire stack after the flop was opened and Barbosa made the call with a set of ladies. Furey’s two pairs on the flop didn’t stand a chance but he wasn’t covered so he’s still in the game and can try to rebuild his stack.

Barbosa: Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds

Furey: Queen of Spades 8 of Clubs

Board: Queen of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts Jack of Hearts 2 of Clubs

Only two levels have passed, and Noeung Troeung has already amassed more than four stacks! He is sprinting towards the first break, and we caught one of his numerous wins. On the flop, he was checked into, and bet 220K. His opponent, Patrick Quinn, raised to 475K.

Flop: 4 of Spades 6 of Spades 3 of Clubs

Troeung went ahead and moved all-in, which sent Quinn to the tank. He wasn’t sure what to do, and took the time to pay his waitress to let the hand information simmer down. He was trying to decide if he was being bluffed or if Troeung had it… again. He called.

Troeung: 3 of Diamonds 3 of Spades
Quinn: Jack of Clubs Jack of Diamonds

Run out: 7 of Spades 8 of Clubs

Chips in the bag on Day 1D

    2018/04/27 - 21:37 by Shawn McCrory

The Main Event continued to gain momentum on Day 1D with a huge field that drew 620 entries. This flight brought out lots of players for their first attempt, but many players took the opportunity to fire another bullet, even if they had already bagged chips in a previous flight, in the hope of providing an extra stack for backup on Day 2. With 620,000,000 in chips in play, there was more than enough to go around.

The action was aggressive from the first level, as most players were clearly prepared to re-enter if necessary. Three-bets were the norm and four-bets became surprisingly common by the end of the day. As the 92 re-entries showed, the players came out firing and ready to reload.

When the dust settled after eight levels, Michael Sklenicka emerged as the chip leader with 10,195,000 in chips for Day 2. Thanks to the huge field, there were enough chips in play to provide big stacks for many players; 15 players bagged more than 5,000,000 in chips.

Day 2A starts tomorrow at noon, picking up at level 9 and allows players to enter and re-enter until the end of level 12. It will pick up where today left off, with a huge field, lots of action and millionaires in the making!

Although we are approaching the end of Day 1D, the players show no signs of slowing down. The three-betting range is as wide as ever for many players, like Sylvain Siebert and David Quang to name just two.

With the blinds at 15K/30K, David Quang three-bet Karim Chatur after Chatur’s under-the-gun open to 65K. The raise scared everyone else out of the pot and they went heads-up to the flop of 10 of Clubs 6 of Spades Ace of Spades. Both players quickly checked, and Chatur led for 300K when the Jack of Spades appeared on the turn. Quang made the call, and the 10 of Diamonds followed on the river. Chatur bet at the pot again, this time for 600K. Quang quickly made the call. Chatur sheepishly opened 3 of Diamonds 3 of Spades before Quang tabled his 10 of Spades 7 of Spades, to everyone’s surprise.

Elsewhere, Sylvain Siebert has been seen leading flops for half-pot sized bets into multiple players on more than one occasion. Despite being on his second bullet today, he shows no signs of slowing down. He will be a force to reckon with on Day 2.

Main Event Day 1E is underway

    • Big Blind: 10K

    2018/04/27 - 20:28 by Playground Poker

Tonight is the last Day 1 for the Main Event – Day 1E has the same structure than the other ones except that it’s a turbo. Blinds are increasing every 40 minutes instead of every hour and they will also play 8 levels tonight. So far, there are 62 entries but we are expecting many more. Players have the entire Day 1 to enter the Event.

    Good luck to all participants!
