    Chip leaders after 10 levels

    2018/04/30 - 17:43 by Shawn McCrory

The players have returned to their seats following the latest break. At the end of the late registration and re-entry period for today, 299 players took a shot at Day 1A, and the 88 re-entries brought the total number of entries to 387.

At this stage in level 11, only 167 players remain in contention. The 220 bust outs show just how fast and loose the action was this afternoon.

Aaron Massey just had a wonderful spot to wake up with aces.

With the blinds at 15K/35K, William Blais moved his short stack all-in from under the gun. Blais’ neighbour, Michael O’brien re-shoved to isolate, and the action moved to Nghi van Tran, the big stack at the table, who cut out calling chips and went deep into the tank. This was a beautiful sight to Massey, who was waiting in the small blind with pockets aces. Van Tran found the fold button after a few minutes, and Massey quickly moved his 1,050,000 chip stack into the middle.

Blais: 9 of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds

O’brien: Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts

Massey: Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts

Board: Jack of Clubs 10 of Spades 7 of Clubs 2 of Clubs King of Spades

The three-way pre-flop all-in sent Blais to the rail, put a big dent in O’brien’s stack and let Massey more than double his chips.

The Turbo has already drawn 350 entries through the first seven levels of play.

With sit’n go’s and flip’n go’s running all afternoon, there has been a steady stream of entries since the first card was pitched. There remains nearly 90 minutes of late registration and re-entries to go, we expect many more to get in on the action.

Here’s a look at the field so far:

    George Ciuciureanu

Action is getting wild in the Turbo this afternoon. Two players, Alexander Lynskey (utg) and Rubens Tarzia (utg+1), just decided to go all-in blind to spice up things a little. Everybody else folded and when came time to open cards, guess what… they both had the same hand in different suits.

Lynskey: 10 of Spades 7 of Spades

Tarzia: 10 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds

Board: 9 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs King of Diamonds

To make things even more interesting, the river gave Tarzia a flush!

    Taghvizadeh flops a set

    • Level: 5
    • Small Blind: 8K
    • Big Blind: 16K
    • Button Ante: 16K
    • Chip Average: 1.3M
    • Remaining: 211
    • Entries: 283

As we are getting closer to the first break, some big hands are already being played. Shahram Taghvizadeh flopped a set with his 6 of Diamonds 6 of Spades in a hand against Donald Somers and scooped a pot of over 1.6M chips. Taghvizadeh opened at 35K before the flop, but Somers raised to 85K and got a call. On the flop, Taghvizadeh checked and Somers bet 108K. Taghvizadeh called. On the turn, the bet was 225K and it was Somers’s turn to make the call. On the river, Taghvizadeh initiated a bet of 400K this time, and again, Somers called.

We didn’t get to see Somers’s cards because he mucked as soon as he saw his opponent’s cards.

Board: Queen of Spades Ace of Hearts 6 of Clubs Jack of Hearts 2 of Spades
