One more seat for 1c

One of the ways that players can get into big events like the PokerStars Canada Cup is simply by playing cash games! Once an hour (during specified hours), a player from among all of the cash players is selected to spin the Mega Wheel. They can win cash directly, but often players who spin the wheel win a raffle ticket into the upcoming big event.

We drew the final raffle ticket for the Main Event of the PokerStars Canada Cup today, so that player will have a free ticket to play in Day 1c, tomorrow! We’ve never had a raffle winner make a deep run in an event, but you can bet that will be news as well!

Event 4 – Results & payouts

The High Roller event in the PokerStars Canada Cup, also known as Event 4, is a $10,000 + $400 No Limit Hold’em event held from May 20 to 22, 2014. There were 34 total entries in the event, which adds up to a prize pool of $329,800.00 which was distributed according to this payout table.

Welcome to the Main Event

Today is Day 1a of the $3000 + $300 PokerStars Canada Cup Main Event! Poker players from across Canada – and indeed, from throughout North America – have descended on Montreal to come and play in this new event on the global poker calendar.

PokerStars is well known for hosting great poker tournaments both online and live, and their commitment to the Canada Cup is a clear demonstration that they take their leadership role in poker very seriously. Likewise, Playground has consistently pushed the envelope in terms of setting the highest standards for poker events.

PokerStars and Playground Poker Club working together is a recipe for a great event – and the first Canada Cup is sure to set a new standard for poker events in Canada.

Today’s Day 1a is the first of three Day 1s in this 5-day event, with Day 1b being held tomorrow (Friday May 23rd) and Day 1c on Saturday May 24th. The event is a next-day re-entry, meaning that there are NO re-entries permitted on a Day 1 a player has already played, but they may re-enter and try to qualify to Day 2 on a subsequent Day 1.

Players are arriving in Playground Poker Club’s Tournament Hall now and in just a few minutes the Tournament Director will declare “Shuffle up and deal” and the event will be on its way. Good luck to all of the players!

Another Jackpot at Playground Poker Club

It’s almost a trend – players come to Playground from all over Canada and the US for a big series, and sometime during the festivities a Jackpot is won. In March it was a huge Primary Bad Beat Jackpot, and this time a Secondary Bad Beat Jackpot was won!

We don’t have the full recap of the hand, but by the time it was over, Quad 8s lost to a straight flush made up of the 5 to 9 of diamonds.

The winner of the hand was Shawn Brian, who gets the small share of the jackpot, $9,400. Costa Psallidas was the loser of the hand and gets the large share of the jackpot, $18,800! The other players on the table each shared $1,343.

Event 3 Champion: Timothy Vukson

After a long and hard-fought battle on the felt, Timothy Vukson has emerged as the champion of Event 3, the $300 + $30 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max event in the PokerStars Canada Cup held at Playground Poker Club. For his work tonight he takes home $9000 and the trophy!

Event 1 Champion: Brian Bond

After 4 days of poker, one player managed to outlast a field of 1439 to claim himself champion of Event 1 in the PokerStars Canada Cup! Brian Bond navigated his way through to the final table, and then managed to survive all the way to heads-up, where he came from behind and defeated Jessie Wheatley to emerge as the winner!

In the final hand of play, Brian found himself all-in and the flop holding 3 of a kind versus the two pair of Jessie. When the turn and river came blanks, Brian turned to his friends watching from the rail and gave them a smile that meant a million words. Jessie, who dominated the field for most of Day 3, picked up a consolation prize of $22,597!

Congratulations Brian Bond on your win, which also comes with a PokerStars Canada Cup trophy!
