Play has just resumed in level 15 of the High Roller, with 67 players left.

The stacks remain deep, as the chip average still provides slightly more than 50 big blinds. The remaining field is full of experienced and dangerous players, but they all trail our new chip leader, Jason James, by a fair margin.

The field in the High Roller has been quickly reduced to 76, only an hour after the end of late registration. The stacks are deep, and the pressure is mounting as we inch closer to the money bubble. Roughly half of the remaining field will walk away from this one with a few extra thousand in their pocket; 39 players will cash this evening.

Here’s a look at some of the remaining players:

    Olshan doubles up

Although the stacks are deep, the players in the High Roller are not being shy about playing big pots and taking big risks. A hand that just played out between Benjamin Leblond, Raymond Latinsky and David Olshan offers a good illustration.

With the blinds at 2K/4K, the three players saw a flop of 3 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 5 of Hearts. Olshan, the first to act, checked the action over to Leblond who put out a 20K bet. Latinsky, on the button with the largest stack, raised it up to 62K before Olshan raised all in for 299K. Leblond quickly pushed his stack forward, forcing Latinsky out of the pot and hands were tabled. It was two over cards and the nut-flush draw for Olshan with Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts, up against Leblond’s flopped two pair with 5 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds. The turn, the King of Diamonds, improved Leblond’s hand, but the 2 of Hearts on the river sealed it for Olshan with the ace-high flush.

Olshan now sits among the chip leaders with something in the neighbourhood of 650K in chips.

The late registration and re-entry period just closed on the High Roller but not before 289 players had the chance to get in on the action. The huge number of entries was helped by the 41 re-entries, putting nearly 29 million in chips in play.

There is still a long way to go in this event; with 132 players left, the average stack provide over 50 big blinds, and the field will be playing through as many 45-minute levels as it takes to crown a champion. Ruben Perceval and Jeffrey Cormier, both notable players with numerous big tournament cashes on their respective resumes, have the two biggest stacks in play, each with more than triple the current average.

The late registration and re-entry period is about to draw to a close in Event #6, the High Roller. There have been 282 entries so far, enough to more than double the guaranteed prize pool of $250,000.

There are sure to be a few more entries and re-entries as the clock winds down, thank in large part to the player-friendly structure for this event. Players who manage to register before the end of level 12 will join the action with slightly more than 30 big blinds so they will be able to pick their spots over the course of the 45-minute levels throughout the rest of the day.

This event will play down to a winner this evening. We will provide the full breakdown of the prize pool as soon as the numbers are finalized after the upcoming break.
