Pablo Mariz is a local player who became more active on the major tours since he won last year’s Millionaire Maker at the WSOP 2017. He ran deep in this Main Event, but his day 3 was cut short.

A pre-flop raising was got him all-in with 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades against Taylor Black’s Jack of Hearts Jack of Diamonds. The flop took away all hopes of hanging around, and he stood immediately.

When Jason Duval opened to 1.1M, 3 players joined him to the flop.

5 of Clubs Jack of Clubs 9 of Hearts

Jason continued with a 2.3M bet. Balakrish Patur called, and Ubaid Habib raised it to 6.1M. The big blind folded, and the action was now back on Jason Duval. He pondered for a while, and announced all-in.

Balakrish folded, and Ubaid asked for a count. He did not look too enthusiastic about his situation, but decided to make the call for 17,150,000 total.

Jason: 9 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts

Ubaid was drawing very slim, with only a few combinations to help him out. The King of Spades turn brought the possibility of one of them to become reality, but the 6 of Spades completed the board and Jason smiled, happy to have dodged a major upset.

Pfizer Bart Jordan checked the turn and called the 3.1M that Hagop Ketendjian put out. The dealer revealed the river:

Board: 4 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs 10 of Hearts 2 of Hearts

Jordan checked again, and Ketendjian paused. He was looking at the board, and back at Jordan. He finally checked, and Jordan showed the completed flush: 6 of Hearts 3 of Hearts.

We do not know what Ketendjian held, but it is permitted to imagine that he read Jordan right and checked back a very strong hand.
