Michael Korovine wins Event 4

2015/03/04 1:53am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 4 - $330 Freeze ($300 + $30 NL Hold'em)

After dropping to 24,000 just past the bubble, where the big blind was worth 10,000, Michael Korovine was able to rebuild his stack and drive it to victory. Heads-up play with Jean-Philippe Lehoux proved to be somewhat of a challenge, as chips went back and forth for nearly an hour and a half, but in the end they all ended up on Michael’s end of the table.

In the last hand of play, Michael check-called 200,000 on a 5 of Hearts 9 of Spades Queen of Clubs flop, and then check-called the all-in when the King of Clubs came on the turn. He tabled 10 of Hearts Jack of Hearts for the nut-straight, and only had to fade 3 outs to win against the Ace of Diamonds Jack of Spades of Jean-Philippe. The river was a brick (Queen of Spades), and that sealed the win for the local hero, who collected a cool $11,500 for his victory.

Congratulations Michael!

Heads-up action: Korovine vs Lehoux

2015/03/04 12:24am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 4 - $330 Freeze ($300 + $30 NL Hold'em)

We’ve just begun heads-up action here in Event 4, and although Michael Korovine started with just under a 4-1 chip lead, Jean-Philippe Lehoux has just doubled himself up to bring this match back to even.

Michael moved all-in from the small blind, and after a moment in the tank, Jean-Philippe made the call. Michael was in a good spot to end this tournament here, as his 6 of Spades 6 of Clubs had Jean-Philippe’s 2 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds crushed. However, a 2 of Hearts appeared on the turn to give Jean-Philippe a double up on his 769,000 stack.

Loubounakis ends his run in 4th

2015/03/04 12:12am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 4 - $330 Freeze ($300 + $30 NL Hold'em)

Andreas Loubounakis moved in with his last 14 big blinds holding Ace of Diamonds 6 of Clubs, and Joseph Abou Khalil isolated him from the small blind with Ace of Spades Jack of Diamonds. With no help on the 2 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs Ace of Clubs 3 of Spades 5 of Spades board, Andreas was exited from the tournament in 4th place.

Xu takes 5th place

2015/03/04 12:02am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 4 - $330 Freeze ($300 + $30 NL Hold'em)

Rong Xu saw 364,000 of his chips get shipped to Jean-Philippe Lehoux in a battle of the blinds, as all the chips found themselves in the middle in a 60/40 flip.

Rong: Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts

Jean-Philippe: King of Diamonds Jack of Spades

Board: 3 of Spades 7 of Spades 5 of Diamonds 2 of Spades 4 of Spades

After losing that pot, Rong moved his remaining chips in the very next hand, and picked up the blinds. He moved in yet again on the following hand, but this time found a call from Michael Korovine in the big blind.

Rong: King of Spades Queen of Diamonds

Michael: Ace of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds

The dealer rang out a board of Ace of Spades King of Clubs 10 of Clubs Ace of Clubs 4 of Spades, and Rong was eliminated in 5th place.

5th place: Rong Xu – $3,580

Bodnar loses back to back, exits in 6th

2015/03/03 11:56pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 4 - $330 Freeze ($300 + $30 NL Hold'em)

It took two hands for Peter Bodnar to go from 435,000 to 0. In the first hand, he opened to 52,000 from the cutoff, and called the all-in of 288,000 by Rong Xu on the button.

Peter: Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs

Rong: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Clubs

Rong spiked a miracle jack with one card to come, and doubled up on the Ace of Spades 2 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs Jack of Hearts board.

The very next hand, Peter moved in for his last 141,000, and was called by Michael in the big blind.

Peter: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Hearts

Michael: Ace of Clubs King of Spades

Peter failed to improve on the 7 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds King of Diamonds 9 of Hearts board, and made his way to the cashiers to collect his prize.

6th place: Peter Bodnar – $2,680

Maxime Laberge gets rivered

2015/03/03 11:40pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 4 - $330 Freeze ($300 + $30 NL Hold'em)

We missed the exact action, but we do know that Maxime Laberge was all-in preflop with AK versus the AQ of Andreas Loubounakis, and came in second-best as Andreas ran a broadway straight to win the pot.

7th place: Maxime Laberge – $2,020
