Knowles leads Day 1B

2015/03/07 9:55pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Andrew Knowles finished as the chip leader at the end of Day 1B, bagging 304,700 chips after 13 levels of play. Inches behind is Eric Afriat, who will be returning tomorrow with a stack of 301,500. Michael Antimisiaris also bagged a healthy amount, tagging 297,000 to his name.

None of the players from this second flight matched Serge Pouliot’s chip leading 369,500 though, as the chip leader from Day 1A is also the overall chip leader at the moment.

Full player-reported chip counts can be found here, as well as the full seating assignments for Day 2.

** As a reminder, tonight at 3am the clocks roll forward one hour, so please take this into consideration if you have made it through to Day 2.

Some new faces in the leaderboard

2015/03/07 9:22pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

The players featured in the leaderboard from last break have managed to maintain their head starts, and maybe even extend them a little, however two new players have emerged to join them amongst the chip leaders. Eric Afriat has accumulated somewhere around 300,000 chips since sitting down a few hours ago, and rivals Andrew Knowles for the chip lead. Ron G has also had a very good last level, and sprung himself up well over the 200,000 mark to put himself in a good spot to make a deep run in this Main Event.

Only a few hands remain before the end of the day, and once all the players have bagged their chips, we will be publishing the player-reported stacks, along with the seating assignments for tomorrow.

The day is winding down

2015/03/07 7:38pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Day 1B of the Main Event is in it’s 11th level of the day, which means only 2 more levels remain once the clock has run out in this round. With more entries in this flight versus yesterday’s, and therefore more chips in play, this generally means that players atop the leaderboard accumulate bigger stacks than when there are less entries. We are seeing many players breaching the 6-figure mark, with some even reaching much higher than that. Jonathan Meyer is still leading the field,  sitting on just shy of 300,000 and still stacking chips.

Meyer is miles ahead

Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

The players went on a short break after level 9, during which the tournament staff raced off the T25 chips, and we took this opportunity to create a leaderboard of the top chip stacks. At the moment, it’s Jonathan Meyer who leads the way, and he is over 100,000 chips richer than any other player in this room.

  1. Jonathan Meyer – 283,000
  2. Ron Shephard – 182,000
  3. Shakeeb Kazempur – 150,000
  4. Vartan Azoumanian – 134,000
  5. Faisal Khan – 132,000
  6. Denis Quirion – 127,000
  7. George Halak – 123,000
  8. Ricky Shamshoum – 120,000

Level 9

2015/03/07 5:58pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Over a third of the field has already been eliminated through the first 9 levels of this flight of the Main Event, and some notable eliminations include: Patrick Braga, Josue Sauvageau, Ami Alibay, Carla Sabini, Daniel Gagnon and Alexandre Lavigne.

The tournament changed to a 9-handed format during this past level, and will remain that way until we have our unofficial final table of 10 players.

A new leader emerges

2015/03/07 5:06pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

At this stage of the tournament, the chip lead will often shift from one hand to another. We just arrived at the end hand on table 54 which seems to have created our new tournament chip leader. Apparently all the chips went in the middle between Noy and Shakeeb Kazempur on a flop of 7 of Spades 3 of Spades 4 of Hearts, where Noy was holding a pair of 10 of Hearts 10 of Spades, and was far behind the King of Spades King of Clubs of Shakeeb. With no help on the turn and river (9 of Diamonds 4 of Spades), Noy saw almost all of his chips slide over to his right, in a pot of close to 200,000.

Noy was eliminated in the next hand, while Shakeeb seems to have taken over the chip lead of Day 1B.
