A little Twitter praise!

2015/03/10 4:31pm by

Our slogan at Playground Poker Club is For Players, by Players – and we take that very seriously. Our goal is always to provide the best poker experience possible – by providing the best service, the best dealers, the best tournaments, the best facilities – everything that we would like to see as poker players ourselves.

And that’s one of the reasons why it’s so satisfying for everyone when players go out of their way to Tweet about how great their experience has been after (or during) a visit.

Here are a few of the tweets we have received since the beginning of the Winter Festival.

A BIG shout out to everyone @PlaygroundPoker great place, nice people, great professionals!!! Definitely be back!

Event 13 Champion: David Bolduc Hamel

2015/03/10 2:52am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 13 - 6-Max ($150 + $15 NL Hold'em)

David Bolduc Hamel went on a run in the last few levels, and used this momentum to propel himself into 1st place! Heads-up with opponent Harley Stoffmaker only lasted a few orbits, and on the last hand, it was David and his Ace of Spades Jack of Clubs that were the favorite against Harley’s King of Diamonds 2 of Hearts. The board gave a bit of a sweat for both players, but inevitably David’s pair of jacks were good on the Jack of Hearts 5 of Spades Queen of Spades 10 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts board.

David took home a $4,500 prize for his victory. Congratulations!

Main Event Champion: Sergio Vigano

2015/03/09 9:50pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

After only a few minutes of heads-up play between Sergio Vigano and Hugo Fontaine, we saw a hand develop that lead to a champion being crowned. Sergio Vigano opened to 900,000 on the button, and was 3bet by Hugo to 1,600,000. He then moved all-in, and was found a quick call.

Hugo tabled his lucky pair of 3 of Hearts 3 of Spades, which had at two occasions in this tournament won him a huge pot. This time however, the pair of 3s was not so lucky, as it came second best to Sergio’s Ace of Spades King of Diamonds on a board showing King of Clubs 10 of Clubs 7 of Hearts Ace of Hearts 2 of Clubs.

With that hand, Sergio claimed the victory in this Main Event of the Playground Winter Festival, taking home a sweet $86,640 prize!

Congratulations!

Event 12 Champions!

2015/03/09 8:32pm by
Tournament: Event 12 - $80 Deepstack Turbo ($70 + $10 NL Hold'em)

Play in Event 12 has come to a conclusion with the 4 remaining players agreeing to a chip-chop. As mentioned in the previous post, the blinds had more than caught up with the average stack, so even though one player (Garry) had about half of the chips in play, he felt it was prudent to lock up his winnings by agreement rather than rely on pure luck to drive him to the win.

The four remaining players were:

  1. Garry Thompson – $1,525.00
  2. Yves Leboeuf – $990.00
  3. Steve Horic – $815.00
  4. James Bruyere – $800.00

Congratulations to all four!

Three-way deal in the 8-Max

2015/03/09 3:09am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 11 - 8-Max ($100 + $10 NL Hold'em)

Once play fell down to the final 3 players, they paused the clock to discuss a potential chop. Peter Shaw had the most chips, and asked for $3,000, which the other two agreed upon. Here are the final payouts:

  • Peter Shaw – $3,000
  • Rodney Hollett – $2,725
  • Rejean Grenier – $2,725

Congratulations gentlemen!

Event 10 ends with a deal!

2015/03/08 4:15am by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 10 - NL Hold'em 3 Lives ($200 + $20 NL Hold'em)

Daylight savings time has it’s advantages, but also it’s disadvantages. When play fell on break 7-handed, a chatter of chop arose given the late hour (and increasing blinds), and by the time the break was over, everyone had agreed to share the remainder of the prize pool. Given the differences in stack sizes, the players computed their own ‘chip-chop’ and came up with the following prizes:

  1. Quyen Dao – $3,750
  2. Behram Antia – $3,750
  3. Jonathan Cameron – $2,982
  4. John Pentefountas – $2,882
  5. Fabian Garzon – $2,682
  6. Jean-Philippe Lehoux – $2,682
  7. Nicolas Martel – $2,682

Congratulations!

Three Lives tonight!

2015/03/07 4:43pm by
Tournament: Event 10 - NL Hold'em 3 Lives ($200 + $20 NL Hold'em)

Tonight at 7:30 the Playground Winter Festival continues with a new event – a No Limit Hold’em 3 Lives tournament! We have frequently run 3 Lives PLO events, but this is the first time we’ve used this format for a Hold’em event.

The concept is simple. Instead of getting all of their starting chips at once, players receive 3 “Life Chips” each of which is worth 10,000 tournament chips. Everyone will start the event by redeeming one life chip, and therefore starting with 10,000 chips – but players may redeem either one or two more life chips at any time in the first four levels.

So, some players will choose to start with just 10K and keep both additional life chips in case they lose a big pot early – other players will use the power that a large stack gives them and redeem all three chips at once, starting with 30K.

Registration is open for four 20-minute levels, and any player who has not used all three life chips by the end of this period will be given their additional 10K stack(s) at this time.

Good luck!

Daylight savings time!

2015/03/06 7:08pm by
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Just a reminder to everyone that between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Daylight Savings Time will come into effect in Montreal. As the old adage goes: “spring forward….”

It’s not as important in this era of self-setting and self-adjusting electronic devices, but for players who qualify for Day 2 of the Main Event, be sure to remember to check your devices, watches, and/or clocks to make sure you’re here on time to start the day at 12pm (noon).

Champions!

2015/03/04 6:52pm by
Tournament: Event 7 - $70 Single Rebuy ($60 + $10 NL Hold'em)

Once the player in 5th was eliminated, the remaining 4 players quickly arrived at a deal. They agreed on their own distribution of the prize pool, roughly according to stack size but not calculated via normal chip-chop methods. They agreed that Joshua Campbell would get $1,200, Kenneth Lowry and Yves Deschamps would each get $1000, and Luc Fournier agreed to take $849.

Congratulations!
