In the early flurry of activity, a few of the already-strong stacks have managed to chip up and join Serge Pouliot (who remains one of the big stacks) up over 350K in tournament chips. Some of the players who have made strong gains so far include Eric Afriat (400K), Amir Babakhani (350K), Frederic Pierre (360K), and Andrew Knowles (355K).
Some early Day 2 photos
Play continues at a relatively fast pace as another 11 players have been eliminated.
Play is underway
15 minutes of Day 2 have passed and there have already been a few eliminations, taking the field down to 135 players. Table 49 has now broken and play continues on 15 9-handed tables.
All set for Day 2
The dealers are seated and the players’ sealed bags have been placed at the tables. Tournament staff is waiting at the entrance of the Tournament Hall to direct players to their seats. A few players have begun to file in to take their place as well…
And so Day 2 of the Main Event of the Playground Winter Festival is ready to go.
There are 139 players left in the tournament of the 494 players who began the event in one of the two starting flights. Play today is scheduled for 10 levels of 60 minutes each, and play will continue on 9-handed tables all day today. The big moment today will be reaching the money bubble, which will come after the player in 55th place has been eliminated.
Good luck to everyone still in the event!
Main Event – Day 2 seating chart & chip counts
This is the official seating chart for Day 2 of the $1,000 + $100 Main Event in the Playground Winter Festival.
Days 1a and 1b had a total of 494 entries, and of these, 52 players qualified through Day 1a and 87 through Day 1b, for a total of 139 players remaining in the event. This was a next-day re-entry tournament in which players could bring their best stack forward to Day 2, but no players qualified through both starting flights.
Play resumes in level 14 at 12pm on Sunday March 8th. The chip average of the players remaining is 107,000.
We would like to remind players that Daylight Savings Time comes into effect overnight tonight and they are advised to be careful to arrive on time on Sunday.

Knowles leads Day 1B
Andrew Knowles finished as the chip leader at the end of Day 1B, bagging 304,700 chips after 13 levels of play. Inches behind is Eric Afriat, who will be returning tomorrow with a stack of 301,500. Michael Antimisiaris also bagged a healthy amount, tagging 297,000 to his name.
None of the players from this second flight matched Serge Pouliot’s chip leading 369,500 though, as the chip leader from Day 1A is also the overall chip leader at the moment.
** As a reminder, tonight at 3am the clocks roll forward one hour, so please take this into consideration if you have made it through to Day 2.
Some new faces in the leaderboard
The players featured in the leaderboard from last break have managed to maintain their head starts, and maybe even extend them a little, however two new players have emerged to join them amongst the chip leaders. Eric Afriat has accumulated somewhere around 300,000 chips since sitting down a few hours ago, and rivals Andrew Knowles for the chip lead. Ron G has also had a very good last level, and sprung himself up well over the 200,000 mark to put himself in a good spot to make a deep run in this Main Event.
Only a few hands remain before the end of the day, and once all the players have bagged their chips, we will be publishing the player-reported stacks, along with the seating assignments for tomorrow.
Last level of play
The tournament direction has just announced level 13, which is the last level of play for today. Upon the completion of this round, the players who still have a seat will bag their chips onto Day 2.
Just as a reminder, Day 2 of the Main Event will be held tomorrow, Sunday March 8th, at 12pm. You can follow live updates and view photos by staying connected with our blog, as we will bring you up to date coverage through until the end of the tournament.
Last break of the day
Players are on their last break of the night, and will play through two more 45-minute levels before bagging and tagging their chips onto Day 2, which will be held tomorrow at noon. Here is a look at the current leaderboard:
- Andrew Knowles – 271,000
- Daniel Charette – 258,000
- Jonathan Meyer – 255,000
- Ron Shephard – 243,000
- Michael Antimisiaris – 223,000
- George Hallak – 211,000
Recent eliminations: Yann Dion, Vlad Faubert, Rayan Chamas, Philippe Plouffe, amongst others.
The day is winding down
Day 1B of the Main Event is in it’s 11th level of the day, which means only 2 more levels remain once the clock has run out in this round. With more entries in this flight versus yesterday’s, and therefore more chips in play, this generally means that players atop the leaderboard accumulate bigger stacks than when there are less entries. We are seeing many players breaching the 6-figure mark, with some even reaching much higher than that. Jonathan Meyer is still leading the field, sitting on just shy of 300,000 and still stacking chips.
