The Ante Up tournament is moving quickly as the event is down to just 18 players remaining from the 47 who began the tourney. At the moment blinds are 100/100 while the ante is 600, meaning that at a full 10-handed table, there are 6,200 chips in the pot before a single card has been dealt.
We’ve been watching some action to try and get an idea of how people are responding to the novel structure, but the only conclusion to be reached now is that there are as many different responses as players. For some, the inflated pot encourages limping to see a flop. Others seem to be trying to play in a standard manner, while others seem to be using more of a stop-and-go mentality to get through this.
Event 14 of the Playground Winter Festival is a $60 + $10 NL Hold’em Ante Up tournament that was held on March 10th, 2015 at Playground Poker Club in Kahnawake, QC. The event attracted a total of 47 players, which generated a prize pool of $2,735.00. This prize pool will be distributed according to the following table.

There are currently 40 players seated in Event 14, the Ante Up tournament, of the 47 that began play today. Players can still register for another 25 minutes, so that number may increase slightly.

Event 14 in the Playground Winter Festival is a fun tournament – it’s a $60 + $10 Ante Up tourney.
What’s an Ante Up tourney? Well, this is a format in which the blinds remain fixed at the lowest denomination of chip in play, while the antes go up every level. So, in level 1 the small blind is 25, the big blind is 25, and so is the ante – but by level 5, the blinds are still 25/25 but the ante is 150!
This kind of format is a fun departure from the normal poker tournament – and you’d better believe it changes the dynamics of the play, particularly as the event gets deeper. In level 19, the blinds will be 500/500 but the ante (put in by every player, remember) will be 3000 chips!
Late registration today is open until the end of the break after level 5 – which is a slight change from the schedule that was originally published, which provided for 4 levels of late registration. In any case, players have until 2:30 pm to enter the event.
