Bastien gets caught

2015/03/09 6:49pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Nicolas Bastien has put on a solid performance throughout this event, but may have just made his first costly mistake. Hugo Fontaine raised to 275,000 from the small blind, and was followed by Nicolas from the big blind. With the flop showing Jack of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts, Hugo cbet 325,000, and Nicolas replied with the words “all-in”. Hugo threw in a calling chip, and Nicolas was in big trouble.

Nicolas: 9 of Clubs 4 of Spades

Hugo: Queen of Spades Jack of Clubs

Nicolas was drawing dead on the 6 of Hearts turn, and Hugo slid forward his 1,550,000 stack to have the count verified by the dealer. Nicolas dropped to 1,150,000 after that hand.

Ramalho ends his run in 6th place

2015/03/09 6:20pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Rodney Ramalho found himself in a tough spot in a battle of the blinds. Daniel Charette limped in from the small blind, and Rodney checked his option. They both checked on a flop of 3 of Clubs Ace of Diamonds 4 of Hearts, and when the turn brought the 4 of Spades, Daniel check-raised to 350,000. On the river 6 of Diamonds, Daniel shoved for just over 1,500,000, which had Rodney covered. Rodney hesitated for a moment, but finally announced a call.

Daniel turned over 4 of Diamonds Jack of Spades, and had Rodney’s 4 of Clubs 9 of Diamonds outkicked.

6th place: Rodney Ramalho – $19,540

Fontaine doubles with his lucky 3s

2015/03/09 5:22pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Rodney Ramalho opened by raising his button to 160,000. It folded to Hugo Fontaine in the big blind, who moved in for 775,000. After a moment in the tank, Rodney slid forward some chip, announcing a call.

Rodney: Queen of Hearts King of Diamonds

Hugo: 3 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs

Board: 9 of Hearts 3 of Spades 2 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 8 of Hearts

Pocket 3s seems to be Hugo’s hand in this tournament, as he was launched into the chip lead at the end of Day 2 by again flopping a set of 3s!

Stevens makes an exit in 7th

2015/03/09 5:01pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

When action folded around to Rodney Ramalho in the small blind, he decided to apply some pressure by moving in on the short stack Levi Stevens in the big blind, who was sitting on 8 big blinds. Levi made the call however, and found he needed help to survive.

Rodney: King of Clubs 2 of Hearts

Levi: Queen of Spades 10 of Hearts

Both players made two-pair on the 9 of Diamonds King of Spades Queen of Clubs 10 of Clubs 9 of Spades board, however Rodney and his kings-up was the better hand. Rodney moved up to around 3,500,000, while Levi made his way to the cashier.

7th place: Levi Stevens – $16,290

Duval can’t win with Kings

2015/03/09 4:34pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Players Club Member Jason Duval, who is a WSOP-bracelet winner and successful local pro, just lost two big pots to bust in 8th place on this final table of the Main Event. Incidentally, he lost both hands while holding a pair of Kings, and both times fell to QJ.

In this last hand, Norman Doucette opened to 155,000 from middle position, and tank-called 930,000 more after Jason Duval moved all-in from the big blind. Jason flipped over King of Diamonds King of Spades, but was outdrawn by the Queen of Spades Jack of Spades of Norman on a Queen of Hearts 8 of Clubs Jack of Diamonds 10 of Spades 2 of Hearts board.

That pot launched Norman just above the 3-million chip mark.

8th place: Jason Duval – $12,990

Ramalho back in the game

2015/03/09 3:59pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Rodney Ramalho was on the short end of the leaderboard when he moved in for 725,000 from UTG. It folded around to Jason Duval in the big blind, who woke up with a monster.

Rodney: Queen of Spades Jack of Diamonds

Jason: King of Clubs King of Hearts

Rodney ended making the nuts by running a straight on the 8 of Hearts 2 of Diamonds 9 of Spades 10 of Spades 5 of Clubs board to double himself up back to a healthy stack. Jason fell to just below a million with that hand.

Hamelin falls in 9th

2015/03/09 3:01pm by Playground Poker
Tournament: Event 9 - Main Event ($1000 + $100 NL Hold'em)

Daniel Hamelin opened the action to 100,000 from UTG+1, and found a 3bet to 250,000 from Norman Doucette in the cutoff. He replied with an all-in, which was quickly called.

Daniel: Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts

Norman: King of Diamonds King of Spades

The kings held on the 5 of Diamonds Queen of Hearts 6 of Clubs 10 of Spades 5 of Spades board, crippling Daniel to 375,000. He won the pot two hands later to increase his stack by a few blinds, however found himself all-in again from the small blind, as he 3bet his 455,000 stack after Sergio Vigano opened from the cutoff.

Daniel: Ace of Spades Jack of Spades

Sergio: King of Spades Queen of Clubs

Unfortunately for Daniel, he was rivered on the 5 of Hearts 6 of Hearts 10 of Clubs 6 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds board to end his run in 9th place.

9th place: Daniel Hamelin – $9,740
