Ali G was the leader as the break approached, but in the fading minutes of level 9, he lost a huge pot to Francis Fallardeau and passed along the lead at the same time. Here is the leaderboard after 9 levels:

    Name | NomStack | Tapis
    Francis Fallardeau136,300
    Anderson Frank-Graham110,000
    Kevin Dos Santos105,200
    Rong Xu98,000
    Ali G91,000

    Ali G keeps on stacking

    2018/05/17 - 14:39 by

Ali G has taken a huge lead in the tournament and is already playing well over 120K in chips. Luck is working for him – but a lot of luck is simply a product of stack size, position, and the current tournament situation. In a hand just now, the utg player – Rachid Bahaj – open shoved and it folded around to Ali in the bb. The shove was for just 18,450, so Ali made the call holding just 10 of Clubs 6 of Clubs to his opponent’s 10 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts.

The board runout was no good for the pair of tens, however: 7 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds Ace of Clubs 2 of Spades 3 of Clubs – Ali crushed the pair by making his flush.

The May Power Weekend at Playground Poker Club has kicked off with the beginning of Event #1, a $100 + $10 NL Hold’em 3 Lives Turbo tournament currently underway in the Tournament Hall. There are 40 players seated at the midway point through level 2, and players have until the end of the break following level 5 to join the fun.

The 3 Lives format is very fun to play – instead of a normal starting stack, players are given 3 “Life” chips to start play, each one worth 10K in chips (a total of 30K). Players can then use these as they wish during the registration period – they can redeem them all at once to start with a full 30,000 chip stack, or they can start with 10- or 20K and save life chips to be used as a rebuy.

We’ll be following this and all May Power Weekend Events here on the Playground Events Blog, so stay tuned for ongoing news coverage, photos, and more all the way though to early Tuesday morning when Event #9 wraps up!

    Good luck!
