Christian Larocque, after doubling his short stack against a large one, had enough to cover Denis Blanchette. They were in a pre-flop showdown together:

Larocque: 8 of Diamonds 8 of Spades
Blanchette: Ace of Hearts Jack of Clubs

Board: 8 of Hearts King of Diamonds Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds 3 of Clubs

The ace in the window was looking good, but a deadly 8 was hiding underneath. Blanchette walked away in 6th.

Then Ranjeev M. managed to triple his short stack.

Ranjeev M: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades
Kristopher Bracken: Ace of Spades 8 of Clubs
Michel Abud: Queen of Spades 8 of Spades

Board: King of Clubs 2 of Hearts Ace of Hearts 6 of Spades 10 of Hearts

Everybody survived, but Ranjeev is now healthy and Kraken was crippled. The rest of his chips went away on the following hand.

    6th: Denis Blanchette – $500
    5th: Kristopher Bracken – $580

Ryan Verdon lost the vast majority of his chips to Han Sheng Xi’s 3-outer, and Xi finished the job 2 hands later.

Shortly after, Kristopher Bracken made it 23K to go, and after Xi called, Rémi Bourque went all-in for 78K. They went to the flop 3-way, which is where Xi was pushed out.

Bracken: King of Hearts Jack of Hearts
Bourque: 9 of Clubs 8 of Clubs

Board: 3s Queen of Spades 10 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs Ace of Spades

Then Michel Abud opened a pot and was 3-bet to 45K by Xi. Marc Lavergne went all-in for 120K, and so did Abud, covering everybody. Xi said call and tabled his hand, but the dealer misunderstood and mucked the cards. After camera review, the hand was retrieved and they went to showdown.

Abud: Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds
Xi: 8 of Diamonds 6 of Spades
Lavergne: Jack of Spades 10 of Spades

Board: 3 of Spades 4 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds King of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds

    Aces hold!

    10th: Ryan Verdon – $500
    9th: Rémi Bourque – $500
    8th: Marc Lavergne – $500
    7th: Han Sheng Xi – $500

Ranjeev M raised all-in from the under-the-gun position with about 60K or 6 big blinds, and was correctly called by Marc Lavergne.

Ranjeev: Ace of Hearts 8 of Hearts
Marc: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Board: 4 of Spades 4 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts 8 of Clubs

Oof. The heart was sought after, but it is the 8 that allowed Ranjeev to stick around. After the following hand, our finalists started talking about reshaping the payouts. The deal that was agreed upon, driven by Cole Skye’s arguing skills, is the following: everybody gets a $500 base payout.

Cole Skye and Michel Abud, because they have the bigger stacks, get an extra $200 each. Kristopher Bracken is third in chips and gets an extra $80. The Event is now a winner-take-all rumble with $509 to the winner. Buckle your seat belts, all-in cards are about to fly! Play continues with 10 runners at the table, knife between the teeth, gunning for the extra $509.

Twelve players agreed to throw in $10 each to form a $120 bubble prize, and hand-for-hand play was over. The clock started running again with a handful of very short stacks, and a few minutes went by before the bubble money was awarded.

Micheline Gagnon was the shortest stack in the field, and when she saw an ace, her chips went in. Kristopher Kracken isolated with an all-in of his own, figuring he was way ahead of her shoving range.

Micheline: Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts
Kristopher: Ace of Clubs 10 of Diamonds

Board: Jack of Clubs 6 of Hearts 9 of Hearts King of Diamonds King of Clubs

Derek Climan was the next to go, just 3 minutes before the break, in a hand that we missed.

Twenty-two players are taking a short break. Half of them will taste the prize pool, and the next segment will decide who. Carrie Webster showed up on the leaderboard after pulling a much needed upset in the last few hands:

Board: 7 of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds 3 of Spades 5 of Hearts 5 of Spades

Otherwise, Marc Lavergne is still doing very well, but was passed by Denis Blanchette who sits on almost 200K! Here are the top stacks:
